Hey everyone! Happy New Year. I have carpal tunnel syndrome and my wrist (the one I use to do my hair ) tends to hurt a lot. Also, my doctor told me that I have another issue w/ nerves that causes pain. For the most part I am okay but I mainly wear my hair twisted and as it gets longer it takes more effort and time to do this. Especially since my hair is soft and twists unravel quickly. Also, I do braids which last a bit longer but they get frizzy and I get tired of them and have to worry about taking them out which also puts a toll on my hands, fingers wrists. I am trying to think of ways to keep my hair styled neatly without the pressure on my hands/wrists. I am thinking of getting a relaxer but would like any other suggestions?

Hi! :)

I understand exactly what you mean because I have it too (along with fibromyalgia.) I'm relaxed and it works well for me. I still have issues when it comes to flat ironing and detangling but I've learned lil ways around the "hard" parts. I'd imagine that there are other methods of maintenance if you want to stay natural (salon or stylist that specializes in the care of natural hair, getting braids, etc.)

I hope that you find something that works for you. I know how painful carpal tunnel can be.

I wish I could help. I have carpal tunnel also and I am transitioning. I did some two strand twist a couple of weeks ago. I loved them, but the idea of doing them again:perplexed . I'm thinking of getting my hair flatironed. I'm still transitioning, and if this doesn't get resolved soon, I don't know what I will do.

Hi! I know your pain. I have carpal tunnel and had to have the surgery. At the time I was a licensed stylist. I just grin and bear it. Motrin or Ibuprofen always helped me and I took one about an hour before I was to do my hair and then used my wrist splint if I could.
