Glad I found this forum. I have been relaxer free for 3 years. I am growing my hair out naturally. But now i cant resist the temptation to relax my hair. So now i need advice because i was never one to take care of my hair.

I am from africa and my hair is definetly in the 4a/b range. I am not sure how to start but i guess i would have to find a good stylist. I live in Louisiana and have heard the hair horror stories over here. Can anyone recommend a great Louisiana hair stylist? Willing to drive.

Also anyone who has been in the same boat i am in now and succeeded, your advice would be greatly apreciated.

I know how you feel. I grew my hair out for only 1 year and I was still terrified of ending back where I started. I eventually decided on a texturizer. But, this forum helped me understand I could grow long, beautiful hair natural or relaxed. :)

I think I know how you feel, this is my second time going natural, the first time was a bummer but now that I have found the right products to keep it soft and moisurized I love my nappy hair and it is growing lovely, what I do is I like to Buy different types of wigs to change up my look when I feel that way, or go and get a Cornrowed style that can last we at least 1wk to 2 wks that way I can leave my hair alone and let it do it's thang, But as of now I love the fact that I can wash and go.But whatever you decide we are here for you, I know the women here with that beautiful healthy relaxed hair can be very tempting (and they say relaxed hair ain't healthy;))

Thank you so much for responding.

Yeah i thought i wanted natural but now i see all these ladies with long hair and now i want it.

Nappyparadise, what products do you use on your hair to keep it soft. Because my natural hair is a nightmare. If i have conditioner in it and it is wet it is ok, but apart from that nothing helps.

Soldiergirl I found that finding the right stylist was impossible. However I did haveluck with finding the right products. Picking a good relaxer for your hair may take a while but I certainly think it's possible. What relaxer did you use before ? Btw I am West African and there are lots of African ladies on this board who can give you tips.

Hey Soldiergirl! I use products by Qhemet Biologics it is the only products that keep my dry thick hair soft,I mean I have that 4b hair and it use to always get right back dry and hard feeling, but they have a heavy cream and a olive & honey hydrating balm that gives me a soft fro to me it feels like cotton candy and it stays soft all day, you only use a little, I order once a month I only get what works for me, they have sample packs for $15 to try everything and it is worth it, My hair Loves it, I have tried other products but it didn't give me that softness I was never looking for curl definition I was looking for softness and I am so glad I found them they get alot of praise from 95% of customers and I am one of them, Right now I am waiting on my shipment now I get my products in Like 3 days so that is fast enough for me. here is their website:
www.qhemetbiologics.com

Any questions feel free to ask me!

Thanks Nappy Paradise!! If i chicken out with the relaxer idea i will try those products.

Hey DahomeyAhosi , your hair is absolutely beautiful! Its been three years but i think i used dark and lovely or gentle treatment. I heard about the phyto relaxer and want to try it. I read the you used it. How was it? I have about 7inches of natural hair.
By the way i am from west africa also. I tried to find some african ladies on this forum. I am happy there are alot.
Do you mind telling me what you use on your hair? You can send me a message if you want to.
You too ladies!!!

Conditioner washes are very key. I do condtioner washes the majority of the week. I shampoo on the weekends or twice a week if my hair feels icky.

My routine:

Conditoner wash with Pantene, VO5 fressia conditioner or Suave conditioner

Add leave in conditioner or tiny amount of conditioner

I add in hair oil, Elasta QP Mango butter to keep my hair soft.

I use a gel to keep my hair in place. I use either IC Fantasia, S Cur Wave Pomade or Elasta gel product.

Hi again. I think phyto is definitely the best relaxer I've ever used. I heard that it doesn't degrade the cuticle and I'm assuming that means it doesn't break down your hair as much as a normal relaxer. I use glycerin and water as my main moisturizer but for growth MTG is what's really helped. Be patient looking for the right products. I certainly recommend phyto as a relaxer and emergencee as a protein conditioner/reconstructor.
