Just a random thought that came to mind. I remember hearing folks talking about using different concoctions like mayo and eggs to "strip off" or get rid of a relaxer in their hair. Is this true or a big myth??? If it is true, how and what is the result?

If it were true, I would have stripped mine off a long time ago instead of growing it out!! I've never heard of anyone actually doing this.

I don't really see how that would work since relaxers and perms permanently break the bonds within the hair shaft.

Here we go again......:ohwell:

Exactly. A relaxer is not something you can take off, even though you put it on. This is probably the second biggest myth after the infamous "cutting your hair makes it grow" myth. I'm telling you, we need a sticky for these things!

Huge myth. Relaxing weakens/destroys the bonds in the hair and the only way to make those atoms form back together into their respective molecules is by using a reconstructor. Even then, the process is not reversed, you are just bonding the atoms back in their new straightened conformation. To my knowledge, there is no reversal of a relaxer. All you can do is grow the hair out and then chop off all the relaxed parts.

Well, ya'll know that the place to go when ya' don't know is the LHCF!

I promise you guys people believe this stuff. I just don't know anyone who's ever done it.

WOW!!! I just did a little experiment. I asked my co-worker how do you strip a perm and she said - "with Ivory Liquid." OMG, :lachen: I had to try hard not to bust out laughing. :lachen::lachen: Good thing she's never tried it!

Yeah, it will strip all the moisture out of the hair strands lol. As far as stripping the relaxer? Hahaha, nope.

I've heard people say the same thing about using vinegar. I think that comes from people associating all natural hair with being dry, tangly, and rough. Just because those products do a number on your hair if used incorrectly, doesn't mean the relaxer is gone all of a sudden.

I remember I was reading an issue of Black Hair Sophisticates and Angie Stone said she used vinegar to remove her relaxer. As it turns out her fro was just a weave.

Yep...as stated...both permanent waves and relaxers permanently alter the chemical structure of your hair. No matter what you do to it it will not revert back to an unprocessed state.
