Came across a thread where some members were reminising the days of grease, a cup of water and a brush i.e. the back in the day 'greasing' days.

Think I'm probably a bit too young to remember these days but I wana try it out, whats the water for!?!

Im guessing the water was for moisture, and the grease sealed it in? im trying to go back to this..

Your supposed to put grease in the hair and dip the brush in the water before brushing the grease through.

Dang I need to find that thread!! That's what my momma used to do to my hair. And it grew really long.

I am so guilty of using this method back in the day. I didn't have a relaxer then so I would wet my hair, apply UltraSheen grease and roll the ends with a sponge roller. Next morning, lots of curls.

Yeah, I remember this.I still have country cousins who do this. The water is to get the curls going on.

I don't know if this works on all types of hair. I'm 4a/b and I remember when I was about 11 and I went to a summer basketball camp at Johnson C. Smith Univ. in Charlotte. I use to be so amazed watching this girl everyday brush her hair with water and vaseline and it ended up so glossy and shiny and wavy.

I would go home and try it and come out looking a mess. My mom knew what I was trying to do and helped me realize that my hair type was not like hers. She had naturally curly hair and even water alone use to lay it down sometimes.

Even today, I laugh because the closest I can come to that look is right after I get a touch up, with enough pomade! LOL

:look: I still do it too when I wear a bun. The only thing is that I don't use actual petroleum/mineral oil grease; I use Alma & Olive Heavy Cream and any other heavy stuff that has good ingredients. Also, I don't dip my brush in water, I just fill the palm of my hand with water and splash it on my hair, apply the "grease" and get to brushin

Maybe THAT's why I always had short dry hair in all of my young pictures! I don't remember any water to dip a brush in! My mom NEVER did that!
