Someone posted a useful chart before...but I do not remember who did. Maybe someone who knows where the chart is will post it again.

A lot of people measure BSL by the hair hitting the top of the brastrap, but I always measured BSL as when your hair hits the bottom of the brastrap. *shrugs*

I think shoulderlength is the easiest. It's simply when the hair rests on the shoulders comfortably. APL is usually measured from the back and is when the hair touches the top of the juncture/crease made when the arms fall naturally by the sides of the body.

BSL is also measured from the back and is when the hair touches the lower back strap of the bra. This measure is arbitrary though because bras fit differently on different people.

MBL is measured between brastrap and waist. For some people, MBL is synonymous with waistlength. For me, I don't have much of a midback so I really don't use that as a measure for me. Its BSL to waist. On longer torsos, that measure is more defined.

Its easier to see on anatomically ideal charts. On people, well . . . it ain't so easy.

Where is that chart?

I posted this chart awhile back, it may clear up some confusion when it comes to hair lengths and body locations:

Depending on your height and body measurements, it may differ from person to person of course. :)

LOL SweetAm, yeah, but I don't have the chart hosted anywhere yet so I had to post it as a thumbnail. I have a couple of files that I need to put in my albums, but I've been just to tired lately.

Okay can definitely go with the chart.....that is a good one.

I always viewed shoulder length as on the shoulders/going a little past the shoulders.

There needs to be a dot lead in for armpit length though, then the chart would be complete...:) ..but we know it's where the armpit crevice is on the chart.

Wow, thanks for posting that chart. BSL is a funny length that is kinda random, especially when various bras fit differently. :look: The whole mid back is kinda a new length to me, I had never heard of that until recently. I always thought it was BSL, then waist length. Mid back however more accurently sums up the length between BSL and WSL, and that's really where where my hair length is now. Good to know.

Wow, I always viewed shoulder length as the hair skimming/touching the shoulders. Hmm...

I don't mean to hijack but what would "top of back" mean in terms of APL or SL, because me my mom told me my hair straightened is at the top of my back.

If someone said "top of back" to me, I'd think shoulderlength, maybe a bit past--- but not quite APL.

SoAnx, If you brought your hair to the front, would it touch your collarbone? That's another length that some people use. To me, collarbone length is a front measure of length that is just between shoulder and APL. Before I found the hair boards, that was a pretty popular measure we'd use in real life.

My shoulder length goal is actually collarbone length I think. I don't want o get all hyped with it just brushing on my shoulders. :) I will consider myself fully shoulder length when it just touches my collarbone. :D

I saw a picture that showed the different lenghs you're supposed to get year after year.
Now, I can't seem to find it anymore, except in some siggys or avatars.

Can someone post this picture again please?:)

ETA: Keluric, I saw you have this picture as a comparison shot in your siggy. If you see this message, can you post the pic please?

hmmm... :scratchch I see what you mean. Collarbone length would probably be full shoulderlength. To just brush the shoulders you wouldn't need as much hair.

Is it safe to say that BSL should hit the bottom of your scapula/shoulder blade?

I have such a short torso, BSL is like 3 inches from waist for me. :(

But yeah, Seni, I agree BSL SHOULD be atleast under the shoulder blade.

Riht under the shoulder blade? Okay, maybe I do wear my bra strap lower than some. I have to make sure the twins stay up.

I love that chart! I still think people will use their own arbitrary measuring though. Doesn't much matter as long as their hair is healthy.
