I was wondering if i can wet set a synthetic track to make a ponytail? I remember I saw my college room-mate set a track she had by rodding it up and then putting it in the microwave to dry. Yes, the microwave. :lachen: I wouldn't have to use her primitive method but do you think i could dry it under the hooded dryer? I have synthetic yak hair, i think, but it's too straight and i'd like to have a curly pony. What are you're thoughts? TIA

I doubt you could set it and have it look the way you want it to look...it's the reason why getting human hair extensions are much better IMHO.

I did the microwave thing a few times. I've rodded a few half wigs that way. One of my hairdressers used to do hair out of her house and did it that way. It's quicker to dry. She would rod the ponytail and put it in the microwave then bring it back and put it on somebody's head. As far as synthetic hair goes, it depends on the hair. They now have those ones that can be curled up to a certain temperature. It should tell you on the package. You can do it with those. I've used hot rollers on that kind of synthetic hair with no problem. Most brands offer it now. It's a cross between human and synthetic. And you can usually get it any length and it's cheaper than human. The regular synthetic hair will melt.

Thanks sooo much for the response ladies. Bmore, I am going to look for the brands like the ones you mentioned. That's exactly what i need.

When my roommate use the microwave her curls lasted forever. I'm not sure what type of hair she used but the curls didn't fall until she wet it again. Did yours do that too? It got frizzy but i think it made it look better, less fake, you know.

I haven't microwaved weave since like '95! I can't help on the synthetic weave as I've never used it but, if all you want it for is a ponytail then get some cheap HH... I've seen some for like $10 a pack.

They usually stay for a while. I did it on human hair and it held better with a setting lotion but don't use too much or it'll get crunchy. I've also did it with just water alone and it made the curls fluffier. It usually lasted until I wet it again. I might have a picture somewhere. Let me check...

Some brands that are synthetic but can be curled that come to mind are the Brandy hair (I think it's called Pro-10 or something like that.) Also, there's Hot Stiff Fusion or Wawu/Wawa (something like that). Also, Glance Model Model's synthetic hair is alright. I usually buy their synthetic half wigs. You can get a pack for like $9.99 any length. Sometimes when I wanted a long super straight weave for a short period of time I would buy those hairs. I could get 2 packs for less than $20. If I was only going to wear it straight, I figured what did I need to pay out the behind for human hair for? Longer lengths get expensive.

I have used the micowave method. It was ghetto- BUT fabulous.

It sure was. I even had my mama doing it at one point when she was trying to grow her short cut out. I hooked her up with some cute ponytails until she got to shoulder length. I just duplicated my hairdresser after that first time.

Thanks ladies. I will keep all your suggestions in mind when I go to buy more hair but for now I am going try it with the hair i have, I hope it's one of the better synthetics. I'm just tired of it sitting their flaunting in my face that I wasted money again. My budget is tooo tight to not use what I've purchased so I'll see how it works. If i like it enough I go buy some of that cheap human hair:grin:. I don't even look at human hair when I go to BSS because I KNOW it's going to be more money. I hadn't realized they come so cheap too. Thanks again. I post a pic when I finally get around to making my phony pony.

Wow! My roommate did this maybe 2 years ago. I didn't know it was that old :lachen:. Heck, I thought she made it up. :spinning:
