I'm having some trouble with too much thickness. After conditioning, i place my hair into a bun. What can be done to reduce the thickness, i was thinking of a good protein free gel, to paste my hair to my skull so that i can have flatter looking hair, but i'm afraid of dryness and breakeage caused by adding gel. Any advice is appreciated Thanks.

Den, I use extra virgin coconut oil and smooth n shine curl activator gel. I know it's alcohol free and I'm pretty sure it's protein free as well. I also leave some of my conditioner in. That helps lay my hair flatter as well. I do my buns or ponytails when my hair is still wet because it allows for a flatter bun. If I wait until it's dry, there's a good chance that it's going to be too puffy or that I'll break or stretch out the ponytail holder.

Are you still having alot of volume after braidouts and/or twistouts?

No i don't really do braidout or twistouts, i just want my hair to lie flat enough for buns.

Well I beleive I noticed a loss of volume with Biolage Ultra-Hydrating Balm. Also know that I were relaxed hair and I have only used it twice.

Thanks for this recommendation i had my eye on this product, the other day.

I second the biolage. It flattened my hair out--and I don't need my hair to be any flatter. It is very rich and heavy. I really like it (just don't like how it flattened my hair). You should try it if you are trying to lose volume. It sucks it right up--probably because it is for really thick hair. Good luck!

Thanks so much for this information, how long should it be left on the hair to obtain these results?

Have you ever tried coconut milk added to your conditioner? I have some of the same thickness issues (particularly since I've cut down so much on heat).
Take care,
G

I only left is on for 1-3 mins as the tube states. You get no added bennies for leaving it in any longer.

So, so true. As a matter of fact, I think that my hair was so flat because I left it in for around 15 minutes! Never again! It really softens and controls. I hope you like it Den1!

I added cocnut milk to my conditioner and my hair hated it, because it became hard and dry, after rinsing it out.
