Can I just do a touch up over underprocessed hair?

Greetings. Well I finally did my own self relaxer, and it seemed Ok for a first timer. I do think I used too much base, or did not leave it in long enough because some of my hair is reallyunderprocess or did not take at all ( i'm not sure of the difference). The back and kitchen area is really hard, and it just seems to break off even when I am just adding oil or moisturizer, I'd like to try and touch up just the kitchen are because the underprocessed hair is still really thick and probably the source of the breakage. Has anyone ever done this and how long do you wait. I just relaxed my hair last Wed., but I know my hair won;t last even 4 weeks in this condition. Currently my hair is just above the shoulders in length. Thanks for any advice.

My opinion is the longer you wait the better. I went from a texturizer which was truly just an underprocessed relaxer to a relaxer but I waited 4 months. I had a lot of shedding but I used curl spray to moisturize and I had minimal breakage. Try it if you haven't already and see if it helps with the breakage.

yeah, i agree with dahomey!! definitely try some products to soften the hair that you say is hard, and wait a while before trying to relax again...

I would wait the normal 2+ months for a touchup and then consider going over the underprocessed area. I do recommend going to a professional to have this done. I've experienced underprocessed hair before (well, I was just used to bone straight) and I waited my usual 2 months and then had it relaxed along with the rest of my hair by a professional and it turned out just fine. No breakage whatsoever. Still, do what's best for your hair. My hair was in very good condition at the time.

Please don't touch up the underprocessed part just yet. Wait as long as u possibly possibly can.
I had the same problem about 5 yrs ago. A patch of hair in the crown area 'felt' underprocessed after I'd self-relaxed and I decided to re-relax it the following day....

that was the worst thing i ever did to my hair. No sooner had I re-applied the relaxer than it begun to burn! It hadn't even been in a minute when I quickly started to wash it off but even that was too long. The hair was melting off my scalp and down the drain leaving behind a patch as bald as my elbow...

Miraculously, my hair grew back in that spot, but with a new texture; very different from what I had growing there before. Its more coarse and brittle now ( think 5z) and I'm always forced to be extra gentle with it to avoid breakage.
Please listen to what these ladies are saying and don't do it. Experiment with curly styles for now. They mask underprocessed hair very effectively.
