Would weekly flat ironing with CHI silk infusion cause heat damage or heat "train" (whatever the difference is I don't know) natural hair? I know that it may depend on the type of hair but I am just asking for your opinion or if you are a fine haired lady your opinion on how you think your hair would respond wold be helpful also.

I don't know. I pm'd someone who gets their hair flat ironed weekly and it's still growing, thriving and healthy.

I think it depends on the person.

I'd have to do it every two weeks if I want to keep it growing, maybe even stretching to three with a braid out in the last week before pressing again and some dry shampoo in between.

I also use the chi but I use a heat protectant after if I'm straightening my hair. I use the infra chi for conditioner (which is also added heat protectant) and then the chi silk, and then a silicone base (I'm not taking any chances!).

I would never say my hair is heat trained. It always reverts when it hits water and that's a good thing. However in humidity it stays for a week or two if I'm lucky (but I've been applying less heat when I straighten lately and have been braided up mostly).

What do you use as your second heat protectant?

I'm an every weeker. My hair doesn't mind. But I DC every time I'm gonna flat iron and I don't turn the heat all the way up. I also don't do dual direct heat, i.e. if I'm flat ironing I sit under a hooded dryer and not blow dry. I do have an "off" season where I'll have braids in my hair.

I rarely even attempt to flat iron so I dunno how valuable you'll find my opinion, but the health of your hair in the long run depends on the regimen you follow when flat ironing.

Using a heat protectant is definitely key, but for my hair that's not a sure fire way to stall all damage; if I were to flat iron every week I think my hair would be in poor shape because I don't clarify, deep condition, or do a protein treatment weekly. The heat utilized when straightening also has an effect on the health of your hair.

P.S. To me heat training (removing some of the hair's texture/kink/curl through the use of heat) is the same as heat damage.

If your going to flat iron every week, I would suggest using Sabino Moisture Block. I use it and it protects your hair from heat damage if used the correct way.

What do you use as your second heat protectant?

I used to use sabino but then I'd have to wash it out by the end of the week, instead of stretching it out. Now I use Rusk thermal serum (and technically it's my third lol. The reason for that is that the chi infra has heat protectant but is a dc that you rinse out but some still clings to the hair, and then chi silk has protectant, and then I use a little Rusk thermal serum just to be safe.)

Okay. Thank You.
I have been doing the Aphogee 2 minute weekly and recently trying to follow up with a moisturizing DC (still trying to find the right one). Then I have been letting it airdry. Then once it was dry sectioning it and covering the section with Chi silk infusion and passing the iron on 350 two times. I am thinking of adding another layer of protection by using a thermal protection/ silicone based leave in before letting it air dry. I think I am going to try the Silicon Mix Pearl Protein Fortifying Hair Shine Leave In Conditioner to see how that works. It has a sign on the side with a pic of a blow dryer that says Thermo Protector. I have not seen any damage it actually is turning out a lot better than rollersetting. There is not so much manipulation and I can actually do it. I think with aphogee 2 minute, a moisturizing DC, Silicon Mix Thermal leave in, and Chi Silk Infusion I think my hair should be pretty well protected. Also my hair seem to LOVE it. So. I guess I will stick with it. Also I use Mizani coconut souffle light moisturizing hairdress twice daily.

I think it ultimately depends on the health of that person's hair. If it's damaged then weekly flat ironing wouldn't be the best option. If it's relatively healthy weekly ironing shouldn't be a problem along with healthy hair practices like deep conditioning weekly and such.
