Hi Ladies,
I bought a big tub of Affirm lye relaxer about 3 months ago and I have yet to use it all. It has been in my fridge since September. If I use it and it does not straighten my hair, will it also make it fall out? I have a really big tub and I've only used it twice since I got it. I would hate to throw it out. I just want to know if it's ok to use. I don't care if it doesn't straighten my hair I just don't want it to fall out. Any suggestions? Should I just toss it all?

Lye relaxers do not go bad and you don't have to store it in the fridge. Only no-lye relaxers you store in the fridge after mixing usually.

You hair should not fall out due to the relaxer. Just take it out maybe 6 hours before to let it get at room temperature or it might not straighten properly as it might take a cold relaxer longer to heat up on the head versus a room temp one. By heat up, I mean body temperature from the scalp heating it.

Saludable84 Girl what??? No kidding?? You mean I can use this relaxer month after month with no worries about it going bad? Wow, how come??? I mean why doesn't it go bad say after a year or so?

Yeah. Thats what I do. Lye relaxers need no mixing so the chemicals are more stable. You can just keep reusing them. Normally when you go to salons, that is what they use. Thats why they have these huge tubs of them. Lye is pretty good, so whatever you do not use can just be tossed to the side for the next application. It took me 8 uses to get rid of a 20 oz jar of Mizani Butter Blends Lye Relaxer; that was whole year and no hair fall observed.

In all, lye relaxers are just more stable than no-lye. No-lye has to be thrown out after each use.
