Hi Ladies! ::wave:: I will be a crew leader for a 30-day camping residential program for HS students this summer. There's so much to think about for my hair. Does anyone have experience camping for a long period of time?

I'm not going to have a lot of privacy AND I'll be out in the woods so I think I'm going to have to cut my hair-tine in HALF. :( I'm not one of those people who "doesn't care" what others think- so pre-pooing and baggying in the middle of woods is not going to fly. Imagine me trying to henna in the forrest with the bears and racoons.:lachen:

Anyway, I'm going to bring one solid Shampoo and Con- either Motions or Con. Okay, maybe an extra con like Paul Mitchell The Detangler. My ORS Olive Oil and Profectiv Healthy Ends and Salerm 21. Maaaaybe I'll sneak in Naturallady's BT aaand JCS liquid leave-in. (Jeesh, this is going to be hard.) And of course my satin scarf and bonnet and plastic cap (I'll have to warm up to wearing that). Keep in mind I'll already have A LOT to carry on my back including a sleeping bag.

Does that sound good?

Sounds fun! I have never done that.

Do you think braids could be an option for you? That sounds like a perfect time to have a set of braids in.

You product lists sounds good, though. Actually I think a short list like that is good even when you are at home. Simple is better! :)

Hey good thing is that you may get some days when you can let the heat of the sun do your deep condition. :)

I don't know how open you are to the idea of braids, but that's definitely what I would do. Carry a good moisturising shampoo and conditioner, and whatever moisturiser you use, and you should be good to go. This way if you need to go swimming you don't have to worry about shrinkage, knotting, detangling, etc.

Have fun. :)

I second the braid/or kinky twist suggestion the kids & I went camping for a weekend 3 wks ago and I couldnt imagine having to worry about my hair. I would try to do & take the least amount possible!:) It was a very fun & enlightening experience. Good luck

I think braids are a good option because you don't want to have to spend time setting and drying, rollersetting, spending time re-doing your hair after swimming etc... IMO that would be the easiest hassle free option.
p.s. I hope you have a lot of fun!:)

I love camping.:) I take a Theratin and Humectin (the Humectin doubles as a leave in) and a little virgin coconut oil in a small container. You're going to have a lot to carry, so products should be kept to a minimum.

Have fun!

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and well wishes.I don't know if braids will work. I've already been thru training and we have to wear hardhats...in the sun! I don't know if the hh will fit. I don't want to be hot and sweaty with heavy braids under the hh. I already have to worry about dehydration and overexhaustion.
Camelilia, I think I'm going to have to take a small container of product. I'll just have to look like a fuzz head.

How is the water out there? I would go with braids as well, because if the water is bad...it could be hard on your hair. At least in braids you won't manipulate it while its "unhappy". Then after you're back home and have as much product as you like...and have better water, you can baby your hair and take the braids out.

True you make a good point. Maybe I could go back to the ole black way and not wash my hair. I know, I know I'm stretching it.

I stopped braiding smaller-than-pencil-larger-than-micros individuals in my head 2 hours ago. (I don't like cornrows.) Imagine 83 degree weather, wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt, and heavy hot individuals under a hard hat, while using tools and physical labor. It's too much. I'd rather risk it and wear a protective scarf, LOTS of conditioner and ORS Olive Oil.

...In case anyone cared to know. Thanks for the advice. Now I have to take out a half head of braids *sigh*
