Calling Weave Divas...

I want a weave but I'm old school, I'm used to sewing in tracks and leaving hair out on the sides and in the front to cover the tracks. I've been searching for the new techniques--stocking cap weave and full headed weaves but I can't find what I'm looking for. My questions are:

1.Where can I find instructions on both the full headed and stocking cap weave?

2. How do I keep my hair from looking thin when I take it down?

Look under "what am I wearing" and they actually have a mini-how-to on different types of weaving--glueing, caps, sew-ins and strand-to-strand. And it has good pictures.

But I am like you, I use the sew-in and track method. But I leave as little down as possible. I never leave any out in the back, underneath, because it just gets nappy. As far as thinning hair, mine never thinned from weaves. But I think that you should leave your weave in for 8-10 weeks. Less than that is stressful for your hair, and more than that it may "dred" I also don't relax, because that's stressful on the hair.

When I wore weaves, the healthiest by far were the cornrow and sew. I didn't suffer thinning when I took those down, but it was a different story when I did a full head of glue in.

One thing a friend of my who is a stylist taught me for a more believeable weave, she cornrows and sews up to the top one or two tracks, and those she glues in so that the hair lays flatter.

I haven't used them, but some of the products that look very natural are weave tops such as Closure. There one by Master Parting, and there are other generic versions now. It looks like the top of a wig, with a skin part so it allows you to weave all your hair away. You do the glue in or cornrow and sew until you get to the top, and depending on what type of weave you have, you either glue the top down or sew it down.

I posted this in a similar thread... Make sure the braids arent too tight... If needed ask the stylist to reinforce any thin areas w/some fake hair when doing the braids. Use an applicator bottle to help get moisture products down into the braids. Wash ur hair in the shower. If needed apply a vinegar rinse using applicator once a month to help remove residue from ur scalp. Use some braid removal spray when it come time to take the actual braids out.
