are your hair strands thick? when i used to relax, my hair would be bone straight in 15 mins or less. i have fine strands

Mine are thick. I also use Phyto to relax. Phyto seems to play by different rules. My hair was still very curly even after 18 minutes with light smoothing.

I have a mild perm/ texturizer.

The first time I got it, after being natural, the hair dresser left Elucence Regular in for about 10 minutes and combed the whole thing through once or twice.

4 months later, after being in braids, washing and conditioning my hair etc. i thought it looked almost completely unprocessed (except the ends which were kinda curly). I temporarily went insane and decided I wanted to fully perm my hair because I was not feeling the look.. I ran to the beauty shop, bought some Elucence from Mr. Gee's (his shops 10 minutes from dad's house ), and processed all my hair again (new growth too) by smoothing for about 20 minutes.

Surprise, surprise I still had curly hair!!! The ends are still curly, the middle is wavy, and the roots are somewhere in between. Can I say resistant? I like the look and definitely consider myself more texturized than relax. Not sure what to do on my next retouch so I'm listening to responses to the Q.

:p

wow. you guys keep it in longer. is it the technique or time? im thinking its the technique. do you guys smooth with comb or hand? what do you do differently from relaxing?

please more texturizers should come in this thread

My stylist used the Phyto last week to do my texturizer. I still have a lot of loose ends from previous texturizing and the phyto roots are still pretty curly or looser nappy ringlet curls. I did a lot of research about texturizer applications. I printed something out (sorry don't have it with me and can't remember where I got it from) that said you should leave the relaxer on for about 15 minutes or so and don't touch or maniuplate it, just watch the curls get looser until you find your desired size or looseness. They said you can see the curls loosening up after awhile and then when you're happy you can wash it out. hth

I rinse out after 10 minutes of smoothing but the relaxer is on my head over 40 minutes because it takes a while to apply it.

Over 40 minutes and you're still texturized?! :band2: for my fellow resistant hair sis.

3-4 minutes w revlon realistic. I like my curls. My hair is relaxer resistant, but why tempt fate? I do no smoothing whatsoever. The result is ringlet curls. My natural curls are very thick. This just lessens them very slightly.;)

The last time I processed 10 minutes in the front, and 15 minutes in the back. I loved the results!

when i first texturized, i left it on for maybe 5 minutes after i applied it... came out great... now i'm finding that it takes closer to 10 minutes get it like i want... and, actually, i just had to do a corrective of sorts because it seems like the curl pattern was getting tighter (in the already processed areas).... so now i have a few straighter pieces on the ends that i'm debating clipping... oh, and i use Organics by Africa's Best relaxer.... i have a feeling, though, that i could leave that on for the recommended time and still have curls... oh, and my hair is pretty fine... lol

I used Motions Regular. My napps are resilient, thick with density. I slapped mine in really fast, smoothed w/fingers and rinsed immediately. It took about 25 minutes in total. Motions has never keep my hair straight it reverts back to the natural napps after two washes:lachen:. When I was fully relaxed Motions was really a joke. I am very happy with my hair now. I will retouch every 6 months.

Hey girl
I'm with you on the fine hair side of the fence, plus my scalp is very sensitive :look:. Right after applying relaxers, my hair straightens so i wash out immiedately...if i dont, my hair never fails to BURN!
I think the lenght of time one sits with relaxer on their hair depends on the type of hair they have and how resistant it is to chemicals. Also, on your relaxer, your scalp, etc

Now that I texturized I have more control over my hair. It absorbs and hold products really well now. I can now shingle, go naturally curly, comb out the curls 4 a BAA, stretch it into a flattened ponytail and alot more.

I did a strand test, and it appears that it takes about 5 minutes for me to get my hair the way I want. It takes about 5 minutes for me to put it in, (and I move very fast) and 5 minutes of smoothing for the curl to release. I think the next time I will leave the relaxer in the front part of my hair a little bit longer like maybe 7-8 minutes because it appears to be more resistant.

Usually immediately after applying. Only a few times have i left it in for a minute or two more.

I use Designer Touch Texturizing Relaxer. I leave it on for 12 minutes with no manipulation. This works great for me.

Hi, I am new! But I am 5 months post relaxer. Just took out micro braids and was already nervous about what to do with my hair. So to make it a little more "managable" I put in a Just for Me and and washed it out right after application (about 10 to 15 minutes). I seemed to help a little but now it seems my hair is very cottony when I bun the sides don't lay down (not all day anyways).:perplexed

Happy to be a part of LHCF! I have been visiting consistently for the past two years and finally subscribed!

Loving it!!!
