Hi how are you? I was just looking at your regimen in the dominican challenge
and I noticed that you go to reaction salon, how long have you been going there? I looked on their website and it sounds like EVERYTHING I've been looking for in a salon. Did they have anything to do with all that hair on your head, and what are their prices like? Sorry for all the questions I know I should have posted this on the salon board, but not everyone goes to that boardand I wanted to make sure you got my message. TIA

How did I miss this?

I'm fine, yourself? I've been going to Reaction every Sunday for two years. I started in November 2001 with barely shoulder length hair and in no time at all, my hair was at bra-strap length. My hair was always extremely shiny, soft and smooth when going there but I stopped because:

-Hardly anyone spoke any English past "you want a wash and set?" (this was old management, there are new people there now excluding Iris who works the reception desk)

-The wait was incredible. They used to open at 7 on Saturdays and Sundays. Apparently at 6:30 in the morning, there would be a paper taped to the door for you to sign your name and state what you wanted done to your hair. I got there at 5 after 7 on the dot and was number 13! Again, the wait isn't so long, now. They open at 8 on Friday and Saturday, now.

-The are VERY pushy about their deep conditioner and will make it sound as if your hair is unhealthy and may possibly break off if you don't want to use their deep conditioner or prefer to do it at home.

So I started going to the salon across the street (which I have other issues with) but I always preferred the way my hair looked while going to Reaction.

I can't remember what they used to charge, but here's the current price:

-$23: Wash and set with blow out.
-$30: Wash and set, growth oil treatment, blow out.
-$33: Wash and set, deep conditioner, blow out.
-$40: Wash and set, growth oil treatment, deep conditioner, blow out.

The growth oil treatment is always an extra $7 no matter what you get. Likewise, the deep conditioner is always an extra $10

They are both products that were specially made for the salon. They do not have any ingredients listed on them, nor would Iris tell me what was in it. They didn't look like anything special, to tell the truth.

If you get the growth oil, it's put on your head and you sit under the dryer for ten minutes and then it's washed off. I honestly believe you could do all of this yourself and save your money. Just get a regular wash and set and deep condition or pre-shampoo at home if possible. This is what I've always done.

Going to any salon has always taken a toll on my ends. While I've never had any particular thickness to my ends, the difference when going to a salon for just a month is very clear. They split easily with all of that heat and the strands become very thin. I think I've ignored this for too long.

The rest of my hair looks very nice and healthy, but the ends take most of the damage. I'm still on the challenge, but I'll be doing my own rollersets for awhile. I'm much more pleased with my hair that way. I think I'll go to Reaction on occassion.

Thanks! I think I'm going to give the oil a try just once.

Hey Boadicea,

Are you talking about the growth oil??

Also you said your ends look thin, do you let them blow dry all the way through your hair?? I also think some people's ends look thin because of how your hair grows or is cut. My ends will never look particularly thick, because my hair isn't thick. I think you just have to make sure they are not see-through.
