Not really in the top of head ...the hump can be at the back, it depends on HOW MUCH HAIR is underneath.

Frankly, breakage issues concern me because of where the point of the gathered hair meets, the scarf or underscarf rubs.

I never said you couldn't wear a pony tail only that to avoid the hump and smooth it out, you probably need an underscarf. The longer your hair is, the more this is so, from my experience.

SO WHAT KINDA WAY DO YOU WEAR YOURS UNDERNEATH? YOU JUST LEAVE IT OUT, OR BRAID IT, COME ON GIVE ME SOME POINTERS UHKTI.......

I believe the weight /length has a lot to do with it, as the hair gets longer
the heaver the ponytail gets and pulls the curl out. You may try clarifying shampoo to remove any oils and let your hair dry naturaly. Style your hair with a bun or tuck the ponytail under so the weight is lot pulling the hair.
I don't know if it is allowed but layering the hair would also take some of the weight away.

I don't wear it loose underneath. I tend to plait my hair and pin it down, before tying on the "underscarf" around my hair. Without too much detail, the women who wear pony tails tend tie the underscarf fairly loosely at the back w/ enough room to tuck the hair into and they then tuck the loose part of scarf into that so none of the hair hangs, yet no humps. It keeps it cool on the neck.

One thing I don't do are those two piece sets...al amiras or khirmars. They tend to be too tight for both hair and around the chin part for me. I prefer scarves that wrap or squares that I can pin.

My natural hair ranged from *snapsfingers* long to about APL stretched. I normally wore cornrows (for all lengths) or two or three french braids (done underhanded, so it didn't give a braid 'hump'), or a low ponytail (held at the base of the neck, and bound tight and small (usually winding the ends of the tail against itself) so that it didn't cause the back of the hijab to 'bump' out, or a single underhanded french braid, and pin up the back against my neck.

 Shrinkage was definitely a blessing, as my hair was never really 'long' enough for me to have to worry about 'hiding' it...

OH, THOSE ARE EXACTLY THE ONES THAT I PREFFER, ALTHOUGH I HAVENT HAD ANY IN A LONG WHILE. i have the ones that pin now, i guess i like them both it depends on how i feel for the day. anyhow, ofcoarse i like braids , but for me braid styles stretch my hair too. i still wear them sometimes, but when i take them out my hair is always elongated more than when i put them in.
