Sorry...the theraflu has me going in SLOOOOOW Motion.
First - without the right blower, you can forget getting your hair uber straight. It's just not going to happen.
Second - you need to have your hair pulled taut, using a round, boar's hair brush.
Third, position of the dryer nozzle is critical. You should have the nozzle facing down the hair shaft moving it down the shaft quickly. You NEVER, EVER want to leave the blower on any one spot for longer than a moment.
It's a good idea to practice on the cool setting so you can get an idea of where to place the blower. This gives you an idea of where the air flows.
Lastly - I'll repeate, without the right blower, you can forget it.
BTW - the blower that a have (Turbo 1500) is available at a new BBS on 116th Street, off of Lexington for only $49.
My blower is acting up lately; I may have to upgrade, but not sure which one I'll get.

I've learned this technique as well. although my super old dryer ain't worth a d@yum. I'm going to upgrade any day now. but anyways, i dry the same way Webby says. I part my hair in 4 sections, then i part each section in 3's and I blow-dry each. And 1 tip is to dry it thoroughly dry or otherwise it will revert. also to hold the hair taut is a must. and if you can't get it super-straight the first time...then u may need to try using smaller parts.
good luck! I've started washing and blowdrying my hair once a week and i don't even have to flat-iron afterwards! i love it! either i wear my hair bone-straight for a carefree look, or i'll use steamrollers for a professional set look.
