Ok Ladies,

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

I'm 9 weeks post, been stretching successfully so far, with the use of heat.

I cut back on the heat, been using my carusos but find that I need to lay the cones on to minimize breakage keep my hair from tangling.

So last night I do my weekly ORS Mayonnaise and use my Giovanni leave-in for moisture.......

Then I added Shea butter to my ends. When it was dried, it was fine. moisturised and all.

NEXT THING I KNOW: BREAKAGE CITY!!!!!

MY QUESTION (S):

Could stretching be causing my hair to break? (they're not breaking at the demarcation line tho):ohwell:

Should I go back to cones, and continue to use heat to stretch?

If I SHOULD relax, DO I NEED TO DO A PROTIEN TO STOP THE BREAKAGE FIRST?

Thanks Ladies, I need to know if I should relax, b/c i want this breakage under control, ASAP!

TIA,

Shashemane.

Try using a protein treatment first b4 relaxing to see if that was the problem. I suggest Motions CPR. Use it for 2 weeks and then see.

If it's not breaking at the DL then relaxing won't stop it. I think ORS Mayo has protein, maybe you need some moisture. Too much protein (or anything for that matter) will make hair break easier. I'd clarify, put a good moisturizing conditioner on dry hair, let it sit for an hour, and see if anything changes.

ITA with Sareca on the moisture. I noticed that I was using protein conditioners to keep my hair strong ( 4 weeks and beyond) I ended up with a lot more breakage than I cared to see in the comb and on the floor. For me, I use moisture based shampoo/condtioners from weeks 4 until. It keeps it soft and minimizes breakage. A week after my touch-up I go back to protein and it seems fine. This is what works for me. HTH :)

ETA: I use Sta Sof Fro or UBH Creme moisturizer to tame my new-growth.

Agreed. If your hair isn't breaking at the demarcation line then the stretching isn't the problem. Sounds like your hair is dry and/or damaged.

Thanks for your prompt responses ladies!

I think I'll err on the side of Moisture since I Just did a deep condition with a protein.

If that don't work, then perhaps I'll need a heavy protein like Aphogee?

Bumping for more responses tho!

Personally the keys to my success in stretching are as follows;

1. co-washing at least 2x a week-this softens the hair and cut down on tangling.

2. Moisture-moisturize the NG especially
3. Maintenance free or protective styles-no heat, just buns, twistouts/braidouts
4. ALternate between Aphogee and Nexxus Emergencee treatments, moisture treatments after above treatments.

Forget the heat, wear rollersets. They work wonders for helping you to stretch your relaxers, and they don't require too much manipulation. Besides, they look super cute. Right now, I'm 10 weeks post and I'm switchin up between rollersets and buns. The only reason why I'm now including buns (sock) is because I'm about to start working out. With buns, I have to be more careful with because if I don't treat my ends just right, they'll come out all scraggly when I take down the bun. I try to balance my protein and moisture by pre-pooing with a protein and deep conditioning with moisture, but not everytime I wash. Try balancing out your protein/moisture and work with low manipulation styles such as rollersets.
