My 9 year old is getting better and better plaiting hair with extensions. So good that it almost looks undetectable. She has Bratz and Barbie doll heads that she practices on when she's bored. Last week she finished a whole head, I had to look at it close b/c I couldn't see that there was any weave braided into the head. If it hadn't been for her sitting in front of me while doing it I wouldn't have believed it.

How old were you before you started braiding other people's hair? Just curious is all. I can braid but I have to admit she's better than I am. She taught herself to cornrow when she was like 6 or 7 years old

Hmmm...like 12..somewhere in that area...ur daughter is a early learner! I didnt strat doing extensions until around 15 or 16...

That is great that your daughters braiding skills are getting better and better. I have a friend that was braiding peoples hair at 10 years old. And this chick was GOOD at what she was doing to only be 10. By the time we were in the 11th grade she was charging salon prices and was banking!

Sadly she has since moved away to another state where she and her twin own a salon. Dang, I miss that chick:ohwell:

That is awesome. Please encourage her to continue... of course with other wonderful Talents and College prep courses! She can work her way through school!!! :)

I wish I had the skills at her age, lol.

I'm thinking about gettting her one of those mannequin heads to practice on.

She has cut most of the doll heads she has now in little bobs and what not, lol

I started when I was about 12 or 13, doing my hair and then other friends. My mom and sister could not braid so I had to teach myself

I paid my expenses thru college doing extensions - my roomate would get the bulk hair from brooklyn and I would braid. we had a nice lil business.

My oldest DD is really good, better than me - she started at about the same age, around 12, doing her cousins and his friends hair. She is good at the intricate styles and she's fast too. she is a a mostly white college now, otherwise I don't think she would have to worry about work study!

my second DD does fantastic styles on her own hair - she is 15 - and dosent use a mirror most times. She is not interested in doing anyone elses head however, and I ain't mad at her.

i started stat 5 or 6 i braided my dolls hair in little micro braids it took me about 1 or two months to finish them they were cute. her name was kenya:lachen:

and at 7 i had a salon and i would shampoo there hair with these pantene samples in the sink:yep:
