I just can't keep my hands out of my hair. I thought I'd consider a weave (even though I probably wouldn't just because I'd want to get at my own hair)

Anyway... the lady said that since I was "natural" (9 months post, actually) that the weave wouldn't work because the second I washed my hair it would get poofy.

She also said that it's only worth paying for a weave if you plan to keep it in 8-10 weeks. I told her I was planning on 4 weeks since that is what I heard on this board was healthy for a newbie.

Anyway... have you ever heard that? Naturals can't get a weave?

I definitely don't believe that that is true. There are many naturals on this board who get sew ins. If you leave out hair, its a little harder because you would have to use heat to keep that hair straight, but it is VERY possible.

Yeah... it was strange. She didn't just mean the part that was left out. She was talking about the part braided up. Weird. Maybe she just didn't want to deal with "naturals." heheheh.

exactly.

keeping looking around and keep making those calls!

That is insane. I am 100% natural with shoulder length hair and wear a weave about 75% of the time. Yes the front is going to revert when you wash it, but if she has good products a blow dryer and fat iron with allow it to blend naturally. She doesn't know what she's doing. Continue your search. What are you located?

And with my weave I don't have to use heat every day. I pin curl the front and it is fine until I make it to the salon 2 weeks later. It also has a lot to do with the type of hair I use.

are you kidding?

im natural, and i do fine with weaves. Ok, so what if the hair braided 'puffs up'? its under the weave, so no one can see it anyway.

It sounds like she's just trying to not deal with naturals or hear clients' questions about upkeep after she's installed the hair. It's absurd. I go 12-16 weeks with my sew in and I've had no trouble.

Continue your search for a good stylist & good luck

If she said that then she definitely isn't the stylist that needs to do your hair. She may not need to do hair period if she believes naturals can't get sew-ins. :look:

I was on Craigslist as well and I felt uneasy. But if you look at these threads, there are plenty of naturals with all kinds of weaves. That chick was just lazy.
