I've read that butters can be dulling and a blockage to moisture.
I
f you use any type of butter- avocado butter, cocoa butter, shea butter, Jane Carter nourish and shine, etc. once weekly or daily for sealing, do you use a clarifying shampoo to wash weekly?

Would you recommend co-washing only and clarifying once a month?

How do you get the butter out?

I used to use a mango or nut butter every time I twisted my hair and I had no problems getting it out on wash day. I used my regular diluted shampoo even, no clarifying shampoo. I still use shea butter to cornrow damp hair and I think it actually protects my hair pretty well from over-drying from shampoo. I think build-up is more likely within a month or so to need clarifying shampoo. You shouldn't need to clarify each wash, especially if you use a butter that is all-natural with no added cones. HTH.

ive used shea butter mixed with oil and by itself for more than a year a few times a week and it has never dulled my hair or taken more than 1 shampoo to remove.

I use unrefined shea butter 2 to 3 times a week and as long as I use some sort of poo (and it's always sulfate free), it comes right out with one washing.

I use Jane Carter nourish and shine and it doesn't leave my hair dull. I use a nonsulfate shampoo, abba pure moisture. I only clarify and chelate based on how my hair responds to products. As long as there are no cones, shampooing should be enough.

Huh I think it's a little exaggerared, yes i use butter, I use a leave in(which contains lipids) but it penetrates well in my hair shaft and totally doesn't leave my hair greasy. I also put butter on ends.
also it's best to use lipids after moisturizing, and this, with a water-based product.
so, I wouldn't say "blockage moisture" It just seals the moisture on your hair for help it to not evaporating.

like others said, I also don't need to clarifying, i, personnaly, don't even use commercial shampoo, and at every wash it's easy to get all the oils/butters out.

Same here. :yep:

I use shea butter almost all the time when I do my twists, and I don't have any problems getting it out. It usually melts when I mix it w/oil anyway. If anything, shea butter LOCKS moisture in your hair when you use it on damp hair.

I use butters. I really like what they do for my hair. I personally did not like a no shampoo routine when using butters. I guess I low poo, I shampoo about 2x per month and I have no problems getting my hair clean.

I use Butters, Hair Creams, Lotions, Oils (some kind of moisturizer) daily. Under my Wig.

I've never had any problem with product Removal and I'm a regular co-washer. I will clarify/chelate about once every 4-8 weeks (only if needed) and only use shampoo to neutralize after relaxing.

Lately, I've been using Cleansing Conditioners and I'm kinda liking them. I've both the ones from Bear Fruit Hair and I also have the Coconut Co-Wash from As I Am Naturally. They've been both cleansing & moisturizing.

But, no problems removing heavy butters, creams, lotions or oils.

I only use heavy butters on wash day for my initial styling. I use it lightly on the ends during the week. So cowashing can remove it since I don't pile on oils and whatnot during the week.

Thanks a lot ladies. Looks like I 've been reading so much, things are starting to run together. I've read in several sites to steer clear of shea and cocoa butter because they leave build up and residue on LOCKS. Google it. With that being stated, I was concerned about applying my cocoa butter concoction in my loose natural hair that I wash at least one a week.

I've used so many butters on my hair and just co- washed and my hair was cleaned of them. I don't ever use shampoo to wash my hair I use black soap.
