Butter/Margarine

I would be careful w/this one... Butter/margarine has salt in it and salt draws out moisture. Plus, it's very greasy i.e HEAVY. It may weigh your hair down, but I guess it depends on what you're used to. Why not stick w/the known hair butters like mango or avocado? Do you not like those?

I'm not sure. I've never heard of anyone putting butter or margarine on their hair. Just like Dolce Dawn stated above, the salt in it could be a big no-no.

I usually say try anything at least once. But, and this is my own humble opinion...I would say don't try butter/margarine on your hair. It's a food item and my guess is that there aren't any preservatives in it to keep bacteria from growing like crazy. It will probably go rancid and make your head stink in less than a day.

I do like mango butter and avocados, but I was just thinking about plain butter for some reason. I didn't know that it had salt in it.

I dont think it could hurt it. Some have used coconut milk...even buttermilk in their hair. Butter would be the next step I guess. It just sounds really weird.

Butter is expensive here. To me it would be cheaper to get shea butter, avocado butter or mango butter...even cocoa butter or olive oil.

To each her own...but I know I wouldnt try it.

I've heard of people (old school) pressing their hair with Crisco. I know that some doctors prescribe this for extremely dry skin, so the butter may work just as well or better.

A while ago, "ghee butter" was the rage. It's an unsalted butter that a lot of East African women use on their hair (leaving it in overnight as a pre shampoo and washing it out the next day). I've seen it a healthfood stores before. Try doing a search and you should get lots of results

Also, ITA about the salted butter possibly drying hair. If you do try it, make sure you get the UNSALTED butter as another poster suggested.
