Does anyone put their hair in a bun and leave it there for couple of days without manipulating the hair? I am trying to determine if this would cause any problems. I was thinking it might be ok as long as it is not tight. Any opinions welcome!
I've done this several times. I didn't experience any problems at all. I haven't done it in a while because I like taking my bun down once I get in from work (to let my hair be free). I also like having a 'fresh' bun in the morning. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have, before, but I don't do it regularly. I think it is a good idea; however, I would use some sort of spray moisturizer, just so that you could continue to get moisture to the ends. As you said, as long as it isn't tight, I can't imagine any potential problems. The less manipulation, the better, though, imho.
Allandra - What do you do with your hair at night? My problem is the curly ends. If I leave them out, they get dry and crunchy and would make it impossible to create another bun without rewashing my hair.
I don't because my buns are little tight and it would do more damage than good. If I wash my hair and just put it on top of my hair then I'm less worried. /images/graemlins/smile.gif (Oh, expect me to use this graemlin in every post now that he's back)

When I was keeping my hair in a bun all night, I just place a scarf on it and it's done for the morning. If I take my bun down at night, I just braid my hair (one single braid).
I've left my buns in 2-3 nights in a row when I was relaxed. I had my hair soaked in S-Curl "No Drip", which was remarkable at keeping my bunned ends moisturized. I didn't have a problem then.
Now that I'm natural, I haven't tried this yet... but I will soon /images/graemlins/cool.gif
I used to sleep in my bun and leave it in for several days without change. I believe it did cause some breakage issues for me. (in the lower back section of my hair)

This is a tricky one for me because I'm still trying to figure it out. I have slept w/a bun in for a few nights (used to do it all the time), but I noticed that my nape area started to become a bit sparse. I also sleep on my back so I think it made it worse. Also, since I was Surging 2x a day, I had to keep taking it down AM and PM and redoing it. Now that I plan to take a Surge break I don't what I'll do at night!
I used to do this for a while, but it started to itch at the back of my head, so I decided that a looser 'do was better for me at nights. I had no breakage though.
I do a braided bun and leave it in for a week at a time or until my next wash. Since it's braided it's more "together" and doesn't end up tangled or matted. It's not loose at all actually half the time it feels like it's going to come undone..lol. And if it helps I don't sleep on my back. I have been doing this for almost 4 months now.
I leave my bun in braided, like Faith's, and moisturize it, like Dreemsold. I guess the main reason I leave the bun in overnight is because it is covered with a baggie - night and day. I haven't had any breakage because I sleep on my side.
cdfrank, I haven't seen you in ages. Do you still post at BHCAB? I haven't seen you over there? Do you even remember me? /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif Your hair looks like it's recovering nicely..wtg /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks for the encouragement, Faith, I am really focused on regaining my previous length. Of course I remember you! I haven't really posted at any other sites in awhile. I posted one to RHC a month or 2 ago, but I have been swamped with a new position and going to school. I need to visit BHCAB and get some more motivation from you, Adrienne, Charlie, etc. I miss the old gang. I will post over there when I have some successful tips to share. Hopefully, one day I can be past bra-strap, like you!
I don't sleep in my bun. I'm a wild sleeper and my bun is a mess in the AM, so I take it down at night before I go to bed and put it into another looser bun with a satin scrunchie (it's very loose. Almost falling out loose). Then I do it again in the morning. I wear them so often now that it takes me no time to do it. I'm actually starting to like wearing a bun. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif
What I NEVER do, is moisturize my bun. Gotta work on that....
OT: Cheryl it is SO nice to see YOU around.... /images/graemlins/kisses.gif
We can be buddies. I had to chop my hair in September because of color damage (I know yours was from a wash and wear).....and I miss it terribly. We have a "big trim" support group going on....I'll bump the thread for you if I can find it.
Thanks, Tracy, it is great to see you, too! I will search for the big trim support group, also. That's what I need because whenever I see a post regarding buns or baggie's I am in there just to keep myself motivated and focused. I bet mine is related to color damage, as well as the wash & wear. Okay, Tracy, you have a new buddy, like it or not! /images/graemlins/clap.gif Yeah!
Southerngirl: /images/graemlins/tongue.giferplexed: How much GROWTH and length did you attain with the Surge and how long have you been using it? What made you decide to take a break? Thank you for the reply? Bonjour.

Like it! /images/graemlins/clap.gif I'll try to find and bump the trimmers thread today. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
I am so desperate to grow my hair back. Looking at my pics from last year this time, it's hard not to cry... /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

Hey there /images/graemlins/wave.gif
Sorry I took a while to get back to you- I sometimes forget to do a search to see where questions are being asked of me.
Anyhoo, I had not been using Surge for very long. After only 2 months of consistent use (AM and PM) I attained about 2-3 inches of NG. The reason I took a break, is for two reasons:
1) I had an episode of really bad shedding the first time I relaxed after using it. B/c I was a new user, I didn't realize I needed to wait a week or more before and after relaxing to use it. It freaked me out, but thanks to the ladies on the site, I was able to stop the shedding.
2) I also began to notice that my scalp was starting to become REALLY sensitive, like slight burning! When I would wash my hair and stand under the shower head, it started to hurt when the water would hit certain parts of my head- mainly next to my ears and hairline (which is where I really concentrated on putting the stuff). I figured I was either (a), using too much, or (b) not applying enough oil afterwards.
I stopped using it for about 3 weeks, but I still use it now (only a few times a week).
Thank you Southerngirl. I checked out your album and your hair is so pretty and long. I am glad I heard about your results. I have been slack at using the Surge. Took a long break. Sensitive scalp. Have been tentatively trying it and moisturizing scrupulously! I would be ecstatic to get your results. Bonjour
