Hi All,

I am fairly new to the boards and I've been having problems with bunning. I want to desperately wear a bun at least 5 days of the week but my nape/kitchen area is very thick and doesn't look smooth enough for work.

Also I'm a little challenged :( in making buns.

Can anyone provide some thoughts on products that could be used for a smooth and sleek look for work ?

Thanks PrincessLocks :)

I always have great success w/ smoothing my edges and nape with a scarf.
Depending on what prodcuts you use---smooth on some aloe vera gel, shea butter etc... brush (if you use a brush) and then tie it dow. It works quickly too---you should be good to go in like 30 min!

I bun daily and I hear you about the nape and edges.

I use gel and a toothbrush to smooth the edges and tie my hair down with a scarf before I go to bed. It's laying down when I take the scarf off in the morning.

I don't know if the bristles are softer on a toothbrush or what, but a regular brush does nothing for my edges.

Thanx Guys ! I will certainly try the toothbrush/brush !

What brand of Gel have you found helpful ? I've seen Fantasia IC Gel without alcohol.

Any reviews ?

I am on a 6 month bun challenge and I would suggest sometimes doing a twist set or braid out then bunning. I avoid the issues with my edges cause my hair has texture and doesn't need to lay down per se.

Happy bunning :)

I use IC Styling Gel with sparkelelites or Fruit of the earth aloe vera gel - it just depends which one I pull out first. I get the same result with both.

I also bun when my hair is freshly washed and sopping wet, I apply all my products (Elasta's recovery), use a scunchi ouchless hair band (stocking like material). Once my hair is in a ponytail I take a scoopful of lhair grease (always etc or blue magic) and put it on my ends. I then put on the bun donut around the ponytail, I wrap hair around donut. Next I put some Elasta's Mango butter on my hair to kill the frizzies and give me shine. I use a natural bristle brush to smooth it on because it goes on white. I take an old tooth brush to smooth the fragile hair line, I then wrap with a satin or silk scarf. Check out DSD's album she gives a step by step tutorial.
