My latest craze is protected hairstyles. I am so determined to get this LH right, you know. I've been reading about the chignon's. They are so classy and regal (IMHO). For some reason I don't think I can make one ? My hair is below shoulder (front), and the back stretches to BSL (just found that out today); but it is verrrry wavy/curly. I've been rocking the french roll (FR). I just purchased some hair sticks to vary up the style.

Which do you lean toward mostly: FR or a bun?

Maybe the bunners can give a sistah some advice. Oh, I'm gonna get it (making a bun) soon. :spinning:

My hair is very similar to yours. I would love to wear French rolls, but I can't seem to get it right unless my hair is straight (and that ain't gonna happen). So I usually do the bun.

Girl, I say the SAME THING, in opposite; so I usually do a FR  :drunk: :spinning:

Mine too. It's usually easier to do the french roll, b/c I get a hump with my bun unless I do it on wet hair. Of course the french roll is sometimes crooked so I have to start over. But it's so simple to do.

I usually make a bun. It's the easier of the two for me. With the FR I always end up with a weird bump in the front.

Regarding my french roll

I ain't gonna lie, I use a rat to form mine. Do you guys use any tools for your buns/french rolls????

I've got the thingy for a bun too. Just chicken to try it, duh. :wallbash:

I'm surprised to see all the "french rollers". I thought they were dated. How are you guys doing your rolls?

Oh no, Fab! They are so elegantly classy (IMHO), oooh and sexyyyy. Anywho, I do mine a couple of ways . . .

1) Pull my hair back and off to the left side, scrunch it up to form the vertical line and hair pin like a mad woman the length of the roll; or,

2) Get a thingy, hair rat, I don't know what those things are called. I tell ya, they look like a sponge roller; however, it is long like a hot dog, take it, hold it against your head vertically, wrap your hair around and tuck, then hair pin like a mad woman.

Let me know if this helps or not, Fabulosity. :yep:

Im a bunner!

Oooooooooooooooh, Charm. So prettttty.

You know, I've come to a conclusion (duh), the bun with straight hair looks prettier to me than mine with my naturally curly hair. So, when/if ever I flat iron [special occasions] I'll keep this in mind. I am loving the shiny pretty hair that Charm has in this pic.

It depends If I'm staying home I co-washing, moisturize and bun. If I'm going to work I will remove the bun once my hair is partially dry and french roll.

Thanks LovinLocks!!!

Yeah, I like buns on my straight hair better than my air dried buns that turn out crinkly.

Since I basically have no choice  I have figured out a curly, wash and go bun that I like:

I squeeze my hair dry and put in all my leave ins, including gel
Smooth the front with a medium tooth comb
Twist my hair up tight toward the top of my head with an octopus clip (so I can have a high bun)
Fold the wet curly hair so it covers the octopus clip completely
Pin the (wet) curly hair underneath it and voila!

It looks even better (fuller) after the curly hair has dried.

This is my every day summer style. I used to wear a braided bun (like in my avatar) but I got sick of it.

Sorry I don't have a picture :ohwell:.

I am able to make a bun now (yay me :) ) but I prefer FR's because it's prettier (my buns are very puny even when I am BSL) and safer (no matter how loose I make the bun, my edges look like I took scissors to them when I take the bun down).

I consider what I do just an updo, because It's a cross between a French roll and a bun. I start off using a hair stick to swirl my hair up and sometime I secure it with a hair stick, flexi 8, or a cute clip.

I'll get my daughter to take a pic when I get home from work.

Currently I don't do either. But I will say I do love they way French rolls look. I think they are so elegant when they are done right. Especially if there are some pin curls.
