build up at base of kinky twist and removal

I've had my kinky twist in for about 2 months - 2 months too long. Now, I have build up I'm assuming from braid spray, and whatever else my strands caught a hold to. I know this is going to be a nightmare taking them down. Do you all have product or method recommendations that'll ease the process?

Robin has a tutorial for removing braids w/ buildup on her site growafrohairlong. Better Braids unbraid spray in really good too.
