Okay, so I found some videos about black hair care....

http://www.brightcove.com/channel.jsp?channel=348398937

Just to share
OH HEEEELLLLL NO. Did you see when she was pulling on that woman's hair she was going to blow dry with a rat tail comb. then has the nerve to use a paddle brush to pull her hair while blow drying it. The college student her hair had no sheen and was dry but yet she flat ironed the crap out her head. What exacty did she teach that girl about her hair but plug her products. I was cringing. wow. reminds me of the lady who tried to comb out my hair with shampoo in it before she rinsed it out.

Ummmm, have any of you had your hair blowdried that way? Because my stylist does it in sections. I think the girl looked scurred for a second.

Hell no. Mine is Dominican she roller sets me first then blow the hair out straight. I love bone straight hair but it thins you hair out after a while.. The woman does not show DC or a roller set. see I know it sounds bad but thats why a lot of black stylists are losing clients to the dominicans. the style they don't take care of it except for applying pore closing gunk to your hair.

 the problem is you don't have to know how to do black hair to pass the state boards. So in most cases what stylist knows about black hair they learned from mama and 'em

Maybe times have changed now but when I got my license over 10 years ago, I went to state board, all I had to do to a "black hair" manquin was an on base and off base curl.

I couldn't finish watching the video of her mauling the young woman's hair with a brush. a Hot Mess:eek:

It was a mess. I don't like the video where a young lady say "I made everything you told me to do", just to say that her hair grew because of the stylist....
A lot of black people think that their hair cannot grow without the "help" of the stylist....
money, money, money.

That's exactly what I was wondering. She flat ironed that same piece of hair a half dozen times or more. Crazy. And she beat the heck out of that girl's head with the paddle brush. I've had my hair blown dry with a paddle bruch before, but never so rough and never like that.

I'm so glad I learned to do my own hair. :perplexed

Hmmm, I may not agree with the flat iron technique but what she says on the www.emagesbeauty.com website isn't off base from what is spoken of here at LHCF.

Of course she's gonna pitch her products, but they don't sound half bad. Matter of fact they don't really sound bad at all. JMO

She also has Crown & Glory techniques when discussing how to comb textured hair. In another video, she mentions that the Client does things at home that's questionable or that she (Stylist) doesn't agree with. Afterall this is a college student. I remember in college, I did some mighty ridiculous things to my hair. Too ridiculous!

Remember Stylist have a "business" and it seems that this particular Stylist has "continued" her education in helping her Clients maintain and retain their textured hair.

I won't be too quick in dismissing her. JMO

Besides you haven't seen such a tutorial on Pantene, Suave, Paul Mitchell, etc websites regarding the care of Afro-Texture hair and they are SELLING their products and WE are buying them. As a Consumer, your POWER is in YOUR DOLLAR and HOW U CHOOSE to spend it and with whom.

I agree. There are some things she was doing with the flat-iron that made my hair stand on end. But overall, she doesn't appear to be one of the stylists that needs to put in the "tar and feather" category . . . yet

I did appreciate that she explained at home deep conditioning, even though she didn't do it on the model. Hopefully, they'll add an episode with rollersetting or something else that isn't so direct heat dependent. All the products in the world, won't help if you're under the impression that you can fry it with a professional blow-dryer and flat iron everyday.

 My ex-stylist used to blowdry me with a paddle like that!! Broke my temple right off...I'm pretty sure I heard the one girls hair sizzle from that flat iron.

I cringed, too! I'm tender-headed with fine hair. She just took it like a champ!:lachen: Her hair did end up looking good, though. And the stylist has beautiful, long hair, so she must know something. But, I wouldn't be able to just sit there and take all that heat and pulling. I'd be cryin' like a lil' girl!:lachen:

Girl (not meaning to sound like those chicks who hate on long hair) pay attention to the stylist's head either she has a big long bean head or its a weave.. And by the way one of the girls has color like me. and What her hair looks like is how mine looked after years of blowdrying every two weeks. Thin. I just washed my hair yesterday and I was looking at my ends about 5 inches of it is way thinner than the other 4 inches closer to the scalp.

Up until I joined LHCF if I got my hair blow dryed and it was foggy outside I would frizz up and go limp. So I can see the future if that girl keeps going to that stylist. Just remember their is healthy hair and the appearance of healthy hair. BIG difference

I Liked the woman who has been coming to her for 17 years, and still gets fusion hair exstenions. after 17 years don't you think she would have her own hair that long..

oh lawd this makes me scared to go back to the salon . I havent been to the hair salon in months but i need a corrective and my old hair stylist isnt doing hair anymore.

I dont understand why she went over that girls hair so many times when she was flat ironing. You should only slide down it slowly once and it should be straight.

Ugh the blowdryer. SHe just ripped through her head. It reminds me of the time I had my hair blowdried at the salon and they used an attachable comb and would just rip through my head. All I could hear was my hair snapping.

Its even worse that shes using a paddle brush!

Now on Im going to ask for rollers sets and then flat ironing or a roller set and a wrap. I dont trust stylists with blow dryers.
