They found the body of Mitrice Richardson in Malibu Canyon its on HLN right now.

The remains of Mitrice Richardson have been identified in Malibu Canyon, a source tells the Los Angeles Times.

CNN confirmed the news and said that the family has been informed.

The body was found on Monday about two and a half miles from the last credible sighting of her on Sept. 17, 2009.

Richardson had vanished nearly a year ago, after she was arrested for being unable to pay an $89 dinner tab at a Malibu restaurant and subsequently released in the early morning hours while it was still dark.

A campaign to Bring Mitrice Home had been circulating the Web. The 25-year-old grad student was a 4.0 GPA student who completed her undergraduate studies studying psychology at Fullerton.

She was allegedly sighted in Las Vegas in June, temporarily restoring hope to rescue efforts, and L.A. County Sheriff officials had said there were several "credible sightings."

OMG! This is horrible, I was hoping that she was still alive after last months report. I am praying for her family and loved ones.

I remember this story. This is so sad. I will be praying for her family.

I didn't know she was a member here.

OMG I was hoping she would be found alive. :( *sigh* May her soul rest in peace and I'm praying for her family.

kind of an aside, but this made me remember.

My dad was a young military kid in the 1950s. He was stationed in Albuquerque. Back then he didn't have car. He was dressed in his uniform and waiting for a bus to take him back to the base. These policemen picked him up (in uniform now!) and drove him clear across town.

Clear across town, a store has been robbed. So they took my dad over there to see if he was the one who did it. Luckily the owner was honest and not blind and said, no he's not the one who robbed the store. So the police just left my dad there. And there were no cell phones back then.

No respect. Looks like things haven't changed on 60 years.

How sad. Poor girl. At least her family doesn't have to wonder any longer. I send Prayers of comfort there way.

It is interesting that the remains were found while authorities were looking for marijuana crops. Perhaps the poor child stumbled on to something she shouldn't have and the murals are telling a real story. I hope they get a really, really good, blood thirsty lawyer and sue the hell out of the Malibu PD!

This story pisses me off so much because when I've watched cops on TV or similar shows, it seems it's police MO to take people home and make sure they get inside their homes when drunk. Why would they just leave her in the middle of nowhere when that's not where they found her? So many things wrong with this picture.

That's so sad. Putting her out in the street at that time of the morning was shameful. The authorities could have called her family to come and pay her tab and take her home. I have a feeling that's what they would have done for a Malibu Barbie, smh.

I have just finished reading the Huffington post article (and allll the comments) and this
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/33018272 and I have to say this makes me sick to my stomach. I hope they are able to determine a cause of death and punish all guilty parties in this mess. No parent should ever have to go through this kind of pain and torment. There are too many unanswered questions here.

This is the first I've ever heard of this woman. Was this a massive story in America only then? Because here in the UK, I have never come across any coverage of her anywhere.

RIP to her though, what a sad state of affairs :(

I can't tell... is where she was found in walking distance of the police department?

Anyway. I think someone connected to the police department did her in.

Baca responded saying, "I just get informed a half an hour ago. You expect me to tell the father immediately?"

Ummmm yeah.
