What does it mean when your hair sheds in pieces? For example, you style your hair and in the sink you have small strains in the bowl? Does this mean more moisture?

I'm not quite sure myself, but I could probably mean a number of things. I'm having the same problem of excessive breakage and it seems no matter how much moisture or how much protein I feed my hair, its still not happy.

This could just be something I have to deal with during my transition.

But for you I would try moisture first; try deep conditioning with moisturizing conditioners weekly for about a month or so along with using a moisturizing leave in, and then see how your hair responds. If you're still struggling with breakage, try bi weekly protein treatments (mild) to see if the problem corrects itself.

I hope that helps. :twocents:

if the hairs are short, it usually signals breakage. shed hairs are usually longer and have a white bulb attached to the end. you may either need more moisture or more protein. sistaslick wrote an article about how you can tell the difference. hope this is helpful.

if protein/ moisture correction does not solve the problem try clarifying...whenever my hair starts to break that is usually what it needs.
