WooHoo! I am no longer a Lurker :spinning:

Okay, I need so much help! I have no idea what my hair type is..I think it could be 4a or 3c mixed? It depends on the day. Anywho, I am frustrated with my breakage! Everytime I comb or brush I see 1inch or smaller hairs faling and I do not know what to do! I am natural by the way and have been since June 07 (was my BC). I was wondering if it is because of the flat ironed I did (i use to curl once a day bad i know! :wallbash:). I now only put heat once a week to straighten, then wear it curly for 2 weeks( I have hair ADD!!:lachen:)

Anywho, I will post Pics (when i get home-i'm at work now!) But any tips will help! please!!!

eek.. how do i post a picture? lol

Do you comb you hair dry? That might be the problem. Most naturals don't comb their hair unless it's drenched in conditioner and water or some very wet/slippery product. Also, when was the last time you did a DC with a protein or reconstructor? Your hair might need some strengthening treatment followed by a good moisturizing one.

That's all I could think of. I wear my hair braided or twisted and I find the little manipulation this affords helps me prevent breakage.

I actually do all of the above, but i still notice little broken pieces when I comb. I was wondering if there could be another reason?

I'm also natural. In the last week or two, I've been having the same problem. I noticed that it seemed to start around the time I called myself speeding up the drying process with my soft bonnet dryer. I did this on high heat for about 4 to 5 days. Then I started noticing the smaller hairs. I think I'm going to do a protein conditioner, as someone here suggested and then follow it up with a good moisturizing one.

It's starting to tick me off, because I've been so good about not manipulating my hair, keeping it moisturized and deep conditioned, exercising (that reminds me, I need to invest in a good multivitamin), drinking water, etc., that my hair has really started to thrive. I have VERY little shedding and minimal breakage except for those little curly q's. I need to get this problem taken care of ASAP.

At any rate, I suggest you stop using heat on your hair for a while, juice it up with a protein conditioner and a moisturizing one and perhaps wear your hair in a protective style for a while. Perhaps twists. Make sure you keep those ends moisturized, too.

*runs to find the protein conditioner, honey, and olive oil*

Thanks so much! That's funny you said in twists. I actually used a technique I learned from TheEbonyMajesty's youtube video (which is AWESOME BTW ) to try my first installation of kinky twists! we'll see how this goes! Thanks so much everyone for the answers! We'll see how this goes!
