Breakage @ the root from a relaxer?

I recently had a touchup by a new stylist. I asked her as she was giving my touch up did she overlap too much. She claimed that she only put it on the new growth. I had 8 weeks of new growth. By the way, she used the teeth of the comb to smooth the new growth. Was this harmful?

Also, she did not give me a conditioner after she neutralized (I did a separate thread about this). Now, I see long hairs without the bulb attached. So far I've only seen about 5 at the most (touch up was on Wed and today is Sat). Should I be worried?

I already deep conditioned my hair hopefully to combat any severe damage.

Since you're not seeing bulbs attached, it doesnt' sound as if your follicle are damaged but I could be mistaken. However, she REALLY should have applied a deep condition after your relaxer. I wouldn't be worried just yet unless you see really bad breakage.

In addition to your deep condition, you may want to do a protein treatment as well. I used "HAIR" protein conditioner that I would purchase at Sally's Beauty supply store.

That's about all that I can think of at the moment.

I agree w/Patience. The only thing I would add is from now on do not allow anyone to "comb" a relaxer through your hair. Even if it's only the new growth, combing or using the teeth of the comb can irritate your scalp and cause premature burning.

I used to have that problem and it wasn't from the hairdressers using a comb it was overprocessing. In my case they were leaving the relaxer on too long. What helped me (in addition to finding another hairdresser) was a week after my touch-up, clarifying with apple cider vinegar, washing it, doing an Aphogee Protein conditioning, followed up with the their moisturizing treatment (I put a baggie on my head with moisterizer for at least 20 minutes - they recommend only a few minutes). It just about stopped all of my breakage. Give the Aphogee a try. Good luck...

PS I just re-read your post. I wouldn't worry too much if it's just five strands of hair. I had a comb full of long hairs.
