HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!. What should I do? What can I use? The bathroom floor is covered with hair. I delivered 2 months ago. All of a sudden I can see tons of strands in my comb after styling my hair. What has worked for you mothers in the past?

im so sorry to heart this, I hope it dosent happend to everyone after pregnancy, does it??

maybe you should try a garlic treatment this always helps me with breakage, but maybe its just something you have to go through,

did you have alot of growth during your pregnancy??

Patience and TLC. I know that my hair came out in miniature wigs after I gave birth. Just remember that your hormones are still out of whack and you are loosing all the hair you did not shed during pregnancy. It will be over soon.

Sorry to say, I have heard more often than not that women shed their hair after pregnancy. I had alot of growth during my pregnancy. I made it to bra strap and I do not want to lose this.
What is this garlic treatment and does it stink?

This all sucks!!!

It sucks, but it's completely normal. I barely shed any hair during each of my pregnancies and then afterward I had a lot of shedding.:(

I know how devastating it is to see all that hair in your comb, or in the shower, but try to keep in mind, this is the extra hair that grew during your pregnancy and didn't shed when it normally would have.

Handling your hair extra carefully and making sure it is well moisturized will help. The shedding is normal, you don't need it to start breaking too.

I had a baby in May. I limited combing and wear protective styles often. This shedding is just now letting up after 5 months.

Hey There

I've been doing a lot of research on this myself. I am now a little over 3 months postpartum, and I've heard that this is when the shedding really ramps up :(

Everything I've heard is that it is completely normal, and to Good2uuu's point, it is a lot of hair that you gained during pregnancy that did not shed. I'm starting to shed, and we're finding strands of hair all over the place! I'm planning on tweaking my regimen, as I don't think it's a good idea to do my frequent co-washess for fear of loosing more hair!

Hopefully my prenatals will help, but I think it's back to protective styles for me for a while! I'm not even going to stress though, I know it's normal and temporary.

Good luck, and I'll keep you posted with my updates.

Thanks

SG

OK, this is the link for the company that makes the Lipoxin that they used on my hair in 2002. http://www.piermarco.com/treatments.htm It is the Lipoxin for hair loss in the green and white bottles and boxes. I was having heavy post partum shedding and this stopped my shedding immediately. I continued with the treatment until my product ran out. So, there is something you can do about the shedding. Now, the site doesn't say anything about ordering it , but I am sure you can call the company directly and ask.

I am having the same issue. I am 3 months post partum and my hair is shedding bad. It's worse in the front than in the back or middle.
It's really depressing since I had so much growth during pregnancy.

I am also 3 mos. postpartum and I am doing my same routine and I see far more hair when I shampoo it. This is my second time around so I knew it was coming but it is discouraging. It'll get better soon.:)

you can't do anything about the shedding, but you can do something about the breakage. you should use a moisturizing poo and deep conditioner, a good daily moisturize and seal with an oil. don't do too much direct heat, unless that is your thing. the shedding will stop on its own after a few months. my baby is 4 months now and it is getting a little better. it started at the end of October. be gentle with your hair. some people may tell you not to comb as often, but if i didn't come wash time, i would have a tangled mess with all of the hair shedding. use a wide tooth comb at least once a day, or more if you prefer. just make sure your hair is moisturized. Good luck and I know how you feel. Your hair will get better. It is just another thing us as mothers have to go through with our bodies. The price of being a mommy is something else, but I bet that baby is just the cutest and best little person in the world!

Absoultely not true. My shedding stopped after using the Lipoxin. I was able to keep a good bit of the thickness I gained during my pregnancy. The product was recommended to me and they gave me my first treatment at a Dominican Salon. Believe me they know what they are doing. Look at my earlier post for a link to the product's site.

My youngest just turned 7 months old and my edges are still recovering. MTG brought them back but I'm not consistent with it. The shedding was MUCH worse with my 19 month old because I stopped taking my prenatals and I wasn't using biotin. This time around it wasn't as bad. I don't recall any shedding with my 9 year old though my hair was kinda jacked back then (so maybe I didn't notice)...:(

I've heard mixed reviews about the Garlic treatments so.......

Since this is my second shedding experience I'm not as freaked out because I know the hair will come back......eventually.

Sorry it's freaking you out but know that you will be your beautiful self again.

My hair was starting to break towards the end of my pregnancy. I wonder if it was because I was holding onto hairs that should have been shed but weren't because of the pregnancy.

I'm currently wearing braids to avoid actually seeing my hair shed  (and I don't have to worry about styling my hair and taking care of a newborn). I think I may still use the treatments recommended in this thread to help minimize what shedding I will have.

I am about 6 months right now and I have noticable breakage on the right side of my head/hair. I have been waiting for all the pregnancy growth that eveyone talks about but no such luck. My whole texture has changed and it is irritating. I hope that the products help me if there is any postpartum shedding/breakage. I can't handle more!

My hair was Halle Berry short when I delivered my son so I don't remember noticing hair issues at all then.

My hair is shedding now and i havent even had my baby girl yet. I take my prenatal vitamins as well as using my MTG. Maybe i need to get a trim:cool: . Currently i'm wearing my hair down. I'm thinking about putting it in braids. My boyfriend hates when i wear braids he loves my hair out. :p

I'm sorry about your shedding problem postpartum, but it is normal as the other ladies said. Hair growth occurs in three cycles including growth, rest, and shedding (have their own fancy terms). During pregnancy, the hair does not enter the shedding portion of the cycle. After birth the hair resumes its normal shedding, but in mass quantities. I'm sure this is traumatic for you, but once it's over, your hair will resume its normal cycle of growth. Hopefully some of the advice given will help. Congrats on your baby!!
