Even though, I have done this before and my hair has grown, I was wondering if it is ok to get braids when it is time for a touch-up? I mean instead of getting the touch-up just getting braids. Do you think this can be detrimental or beneficial?

I don't really see how it could hurt the hair, as long as you take good care of your braids.

i agree with karezone. the main thing is keeping the braids really moisturized. i wore braids for 8 months when i first started growing my hair. i used curl activator spray on them rather than braid spray because my hair felt dry once the braid spray was dry. with curl activator, i could go for at least a couple of days without having to apply more. the last time i had braids (in 2002), i used curl activator gel and only had to use it once a week or so. i focused the application on where my ends were.

I agree with the ladies. If you look after your braids you would certainly see a difference. My friend wears braids a lot and only relaxes her new growth about thrice a year. She's got hair to die for ...very long and healthy.

I don't get braids alot, but the last time I got them I waited until it was time for a touch up and I really took care of them. I used Proclaim Oil on my scalp and my hair. My reason for putting it on my scalp was that it was real dry. That was the longest time I kept braids I usually only leave them in for a month or less. I'm considering it for the winter. Nice to know it is ok though. Oh and I realized that the key to retaining length (well for me anyway) is to use this take down product by Creme of Nature. It made the comb out easy.

U should never get braids with a fresh perm...

That's so true and I learned it the hard way

I'm thinking about getting them too. This'll be my winter protective style

That was what I was thinking.

I saw the pics of your little sister. I see you have her started on protective styles already lol (the cornrows). I hope she is feeling better or at least hanging in there. I know she is a fighter from how you describe her.
