have lost so much hair in the past few months due to overprocessing and there is a huge chunk in the back which fell out and I can't even wear my hair down cause it looks so see thru. I started to go back to my old stylist who is now relaxing my hair with a mild relaxer and that seems to be helping as far as the new growth goes it does seem healthlier and the shedding has decreased trememdously. Looking at my hair now compared to what it looked like last year is such a dramatic change. Should I just get some braids for a while and let it grow or should I continue just washing it and treating it. I am so tired of looking at it because I can't do nothing with it but put it in a ponytail. There is always the option of just cutting it as well but I would have to cut off a whole lot to make it seem healthy, I really don't want to cut it either. What should I do in this case? I was hoping the part that broke off would eventually grow out and catch up with the rest but that does not seem to be happening, it is like 1 inch long. Ladies if you have any advice that can help me, please let me know. Thanks

Sorry that happened... it sounds like it's really making you feel bad about your hair. Maybe even just one month in braids (Crown & Glory style) will help you to get it off of your mind. When you take the braids out you'll be able to at least see the growth that took place.

I got so bummed about how short my hair was, and now that I have my braids in, I feel much better about my hair in general. It helps that DH tells me my hair looks great every day!

Maybe you can do the braids and treat it at the same time. Put in some singles/box braids and deep condition it once a week and see if that helps. Like joyous said, try the crown and glory method--it should help as long as braids aren't tight and heavy.

This is what I did when I had a similar problem last year. The area was easily hidden by other braids fortunately. I could get away with not braiding that section. I was massage the area with oil and using that ORS balm on it. I removed the braids in 6 weeks and was amazed at what they did for it. After that I just treated it sans braids and now that area is actually more fertile than the rest of my hair.

Don't braid your hair. If your hair is damage the braids will make it worst. Treat it for a few months then braid it. Don't relax your hair if you want to braid it in a few months.

Sorry about your hair I agree with what the other posters say- i bc-ed february and my length was irritating me so i started the C&G seriously and now my hair looks nice and thick and it helped i wasn't rushing to the mirror every morning to see if it had grown back overnight:lol:

I REPEAT DON"T BRAID YOUR HAIR!!!!

This definitely was the wrong move for me. I thought doing the crown and glory method for six months on my damaged porous fine 4b hair would help thicken it up, it didn't. My hair is doing so much better after two months of treatments. I kept rebraiding for six months but being in braids never allowed my hair to fully recover. I would definitely not braid the hair, it only hides the problem if your hair is unhealthy to start.

Unhealthy/damaged hair needs to be watched like a hawk. You have to watch it and treat it and notice how it responds and find what works best to turn your hair around.

I am using Aveda Damage Remedy, Roux, Aphogee, NTM, BT, and Castor Oil. This has really improved the health of my hair.

Good Luck whatever you decide!

I don't think she heard us so I will repeat it again. Don't braid your hair.

Sorry that happen to you. A lot of women don't know it's not good to put braids on damage hair. You are adding wight to hair that is barely hanging on. If your hair is damage I think Other protective style are best. If you want braids don't add fake hair. Braids your own hair. Try the french braids.

Y'all serious about not braiding  . ITA braids will not allow you to give the much needed TLC to the overprocessed parts of the hair.

Thanks ladies, I will try the braids at some point, right now I will probably just focus on treating it and see how that goes. I want to keep a close eye on it.
