Hey ladies

After one year of being on my hair journey I am just about at my goal of BSL (ends are touching bra strap) I'm happy but I'm also worried. I relied on sew -ins as a protective style to reach my goal however my hair is very thin and I know that I have to come out of braided styles to thicken it up :perplexed. Right now I have my hair in a (sock) bun as a protective style but I am scared of loosing my progress to constant bunning. What styles can I wear that will protect my hair and also allow it to thicken up ? And If I do continue to bun do I take it down every night and redo it in the morning or do I sleep in it and try to preserve it until my next wash day ?

Please help, and thank you in advance for your input :yep:

Hmmm...this is tricky. I know roller sets are a great way to protect your hair and keep it from thinning out. You can just pin your hair up off your clothes if you want to protect your ends and still have the curls keep the style interesting! And they can definitely last at least a week.

I have no idea that this helped...but I tried :look:

HEY dont know how you can wear your hair but for thin hair the only thing that works for me is henna:yep:some use castor oil and it worked for them.it didnt for me good luck

I really didn't believe that henna would thicken my hair, but I wanted to use it for color. I'm so glad I tried it, I loved the results and my fine hair was noticeably thicker after the first application.

I would try that and just roller set your hair each week. The thickness should improve drastically

Good luck!

Thank you ladies for your advice. I think that I will try henna and maybe look into using some Indian oils as well :yep:

I wouldn't wear the sock bun at night. It seems like it would cause too much tension.

What I do is wear my hair in pinned up styles (like in Kooskoos' siggy) and then do big braids or twists at night and cover it with a bonnet or scarf. That way you could still protect your ends and not have the tension that bunning may cause. At the very least, make sure to move your bun around and pay close attention to wear your scrunchie is and any weak spots.

Thank you Msa, I was hoping that you would chime in because you always have such good advice.

I'm glad you said not to sleep in the sock bun because I was sure about to :lachen: .
I just have to get use to having my hair out daily and try not to mess it up !

Thanks! I'm glad I can be helpful.

Good thing you saw my post before you did that. I know some people can sleep in sock buns and have no problems. I just don't think it's a good idea at all.

Anyway, I think if you have a solid regimen that includes DCing, effective moisturizing, and protective styles you should be alright. The key for me has been to not let my hair dry out, especially the ends.
