Does any one do this, how hard it it to detangle by the end of the week? Do you use cornrows or loose plaits? How may sections do you use/what direction to you braid in? Any pics? Any more info?

Thanks

I did in the past when I had relaxed hair. I would get my hair braided up in 8 braids or flat twists. I would wear it for a few days and wear it out. I would need to dig up a picture.

Yes I do. Its not hard to detangle because I only detangle in the shower. I use cornrows. The amount and size depend on what I want then end product to look like. Pics in my fotki. As far as any other info... What other questions you got? :) (check your inbox)

Thanks, your hair looks great. How long does it last? can you only style it like this? what do you do at night? do you re-braid it? do you prefer it to straight hair?

Thanks :) It lasts a week for me. When Im in 'braidout mode' I wash on Saturday (only shampooing once a week) then I braid it up. Its usually dry for church on Sunday morning. I take it aloose and wear it. At night I sleep on it :) I like the way braid outs look when they are messy and not uniform. BUT if I want it to be neat, I make sure my parts are even and my braids are neat and I redo it every 3 days. Even still I ONLY detangle in the shower. If you do your braids neatly there wont be alot to detangle. I have over a years worth of new growth and mines still work out fine.

ohhhh goshh arghhhh lolol!!!!
i just left you a luvy LONG msg and then for some reason it logged me off and didnt post!!! (all i can do it laugh!)

ok basically i said a few tips that i do and may be helpfull for you...

1- i only wear braid out- i wash my hair plaited, gentall towel dry, add moisture and coil the ends with a comb.

2- when i was relaxed/ transitioning i plaited my hair but used a perm-rod on my ends so the the wave ended in a natural looking curl.

3- my braid-outs last about 3days but when i want to keep it longer i just wear a full-head baggie at night- this really helps to keep the curl and adds more musture.

i really hope this helps ya!

P.S. you can peak in my albums to see have mine looks.

i do this when my hair is 90% dry.

i shift my hair into a middle parting and do twist outs (4 each side), i leave it for 5 days and then put amla oil in my hair and comb. i dont lose alot of hair, and my hair is near enough tangle free.

KhandiB, you hair looks GREAT in that siggy.... I usually do braidouts in summer, and they will last for a good 2 days down, then I find up dos for the rest of week, and that is just with me just wrapping at night, and not redoing.... My hair was also shorter so that prolly why it didnt last too long...

Here is a pic...

I do it all summer on wet hair. I only have to rebraid it once during the week.
I do 6 plaits or box braids all around.

Yeah I think yours look lovely, I have done cornrows this time but next time I will try the box braids...

I haven't tried this. Is your hair sopping wet when you braid it and how long does it take for your box braids to dry?

I Haven't tried it on wet hair, but I have dry hair, by doing either two or four cornrows, which last me maybe 2 days and that is the problem. So how to get the braidout to last longer?

That's my challenge too Cocowhite when I do mine on dry hair. I want mine to last from wash to wash. I was thinking about using a good setting lotion on my dry hair and then braiding, just to see how long it would last.

Its not sopping wet, but its wet. I apply my leave in conditioner and then braid. In the winter I have to go under dryer cause it takes forever for the braids to dry. In summertime, it takes about 2-3 hours airdry, or 30 mins under dryer. Braidout last longer when I braid wet hair.

 Only 2-3 hours to airdry in the summer?! Besides the drying time, I haven't tried this because I heard (read) there is more shrinkage with braidouts done on wet hair. Thank you Sylver2 for this info.

There is a little bit of shrinkage the first day only, but I braid them very loose and it falls just right after the first day. Especially when I take a shower and let the humidity get to it. I keep scarf on it and let back hang out.

Very interesting. This sounds like something I would like to try. Thank you again.:)

My hair wouldn't like it at all if I tried doing a braidout while it's too wet. The frizz factor would be way too much for me. I load damp hair with moisturizer, then braid it into two pigtails (I tried four pigtails but again with the frizz I looked insane). Though I could probably get away with not braiding it again for a few days, I usually braid it every night unless I'm rollersetting it. For a change I might do two bantu knots on damp hair. It's a nice option. :)
