Braidouts have really thickened up may hair

As a person who use to rollerset every 3 weeks and flat iron the roots, I got fed up with the 7 hour wash day and decided to try braidouts every 2 weeks with no heat. I have been doing them exclusively for the past 6 months and relaxed after my normal 3 month cycle. My hair feels a lot thicker and healthier than it did before. These pics are from relaxer day. Sorry if they are lopsided, my phone attached it this way. GOD BLESS X

Hi loniei - it's Lana. I would love to know what relaxer you use. I'm natural right now, but I'm considering relaxing around May...not sure if I'm going to "texlax" this year or not. I'm about bra-strap length right now. Your hair looks healthy and full. I wear twist outs about 90% of the time. They really thickened up my hair as well.

Beautiful results! What do you think attributed to the thickness change? Do you think the rollersetting was too much manipulation for your hair? Was the flat ironing causing too much damage? Some combination of both?

I recently started setting my hair and I'm loving it, so I'm wondering if there's something I should be on the look out for.

Your hair is beautiful!! Very thick and healthy!! Braid were my go-to when I was transitioning. Foolin around with those two textures tho..eep

Hey Lana

I use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil RelaxerExtra Strength using the half half relaxer method. I leave it on for the full 20 mins but I am low porosity so it comes out textlaxed rather than bone straight. I use to be able to relax bone straight but something changed and I found it very hard to learn to love textlaxed hair. With the right products and patience its not so bad anymore!

Thanks

Thanks everyone

Thanks soo much. Yes, I think the rollersetting for the past 8 years or so, having to flat iron frizzy sections (which often happened with my textlaxed hair) was thinning it somewhat. I just think its to do with the fact I dont use ANY heat apart from my steamer and on relaxer days every 3 months. I use to think I could never do without it or make braidouts last 2 weeks but it is possible!

Your hair is so gorgeous and thick!!! Glad I'm on the right track with doing braidouts :yep:. I wanted to try rollersetting, but being natural made me lazy .
