I have been wearing a wig for about six months and I'm looking for a change. I want to braid my hair but I'm worried it will get knotted when I take the braids out. This is the first time I'm going natural and I'm still learning what works or what doesn't. My hair gets tangled even when it was permed and now it is totally crazy because my hair curls around each other. I don't want all my hard work to go to waste, is this advisable?

You can braid your natural hair. I wear my hair in twists alot and if I blow it out first I have less tangles. Also I am carefuly about shampooing them, I usually just cowash. THe drying of the poo tends to mat them together kind of. IHTH.

Thanks. I will blow dry it before braiding.

Will it get puffy after washing the braids?

Although I rarely wear my hair in braids, I do moisturize and put it in about 5 braids at night. In the morning I undo the braids and put it in a bun, and it is not puffy. I think "puffy" is relative, and what may seem puffy to one person may not be puffy at all to another.

Some ladies use a tiny bit of gel, or aloe vera and some type of oil or natural butter on each braided section. This may also help. I dampen my hand under running water and use conditioner to moisturize each braid. HTH :) Have fun learning about your natural hair.:yep:
