How long do you keep your braids in? Do you oil the scalp? If so won't this make your scalp dirty and irritated? The reason for the questions is because in an effort to extend my relaxer I braided my hair in single box braids, I am currently 2.5 months post a relaxer strongly approaching 3

Do you guys notice a significant amount of growth when you remove the braids. I did them myself so no tight pulling

I keep my braids in no longer than 6 weeks. In the past two years, I've been taking them out after 4 weeks. I don't oil my scalp but then again I never do. I think it will lead to build up. I do get a lot of growth with braids, more than without. Since you say they itch, can you wash them more often?

I didn't want to wash my hair because it is to 4K right know so it might swell up to a

and lord knows that wouldn't be good.

My solution would be to wash my hair and tie it down good to help it lie down. I LOVE clean scalp/hair and will give up a alot for fresh clean hair and I don't mind my hair looking a bit poofy if its clean . . .

I never oil my scalp (braid or not, I just don't do oils!) and I don't fool around with braid sprays and stuff - when I wear braids, I wash and conditioner once a week and that's it. I usually keep them in 4 to 6 weeks.

I follow the crown & glory method www.growafrohairlong.com and from doing this I have lenght that I've never had before !( FOR YOUR ITCHING I SUGGEST YOU TRY SULFER 8 BRAID SPRAY THAT WORKS GREAT

)"I keep my braids in 2-3 months before taking them down. I put them back in after two weeks of good conditioning & treatments!

I just took my baids out. This was my third set since early April. I don't oil my scalp due the flakes I get from my scalp problems. Instead I up my fleax seed oil intake. I used Sulfer 8 braid spray when my scalp itched which was rare. (I still have 3/4 of bottle left.)

I washed with diluted shampoo once a week and did a couple con washes in between. I followed those with a leave in spray. I used Worlds of Curls activator mixed with evoo on the legnth of my braids evey other day.

I have 3 inches of new growth in some places and a little more in others. I wear individual braids no longer than 6-8 weeks and cornrows no longer than 4 weeks.

I normally keep my braids in for two months. I received about 1-2 inches of growth, but the past few months I have received on average 2 inches and more in the middle (see my album). I recently took my braids down to take care of my own hair but I believe they have helped me sustain the most growth. Since coming to the board I learned that “moisture is the key”. I washed my braids every week, oiled my scalp and along the braids, and stayed away from pulling them too tight. To be honest I’ve never had a problem with itching, even when I didn’t belong to LHCF. Maybe you should use your WGO and see if this will help soothe your scalp. Even if you don’t use it for itching, you still should use it in your hair to keep it moisturized, or a less heavy oil. Just remember, whatever products you use, don’t use them in excess, and dilute your shampoos to prevent build-up. HTH

Hey guys thanks for the advice. Do you guys have any pics of the progress you've made from wearing braids. If so please post a link or pic...I would love to see them

I dont keep my braids in any longer than 3 weeks (cornrows).
i dont oil my scalp, i just spray it every day with sta sof fro and spray the edges w/ surge.

I got a lot of growth from braids over this summer, i went from ear length to a little past shoulder length w/ the help of them.

I currently have boxbraids. I have been wearing different braided styles every 4-6 weeks since January 2004. I used to have the mean itchy scalp...until I started using Surge and Hot 6 Oil since early this month...my scalp hardly itches now! Flakes-almost non exsistent!

Now I'm plotting to find someone to take my braids out...my b/f usually takes them out...but he's acting like I'm taking advantage of his services every month

I keep my hair braided often, usually 3 1/2 to 4 months at a time. I do oil my scalp with an olive oil and water mixture. I also stand under the shower every two weeks to let the water run through my braids to take out any evident build up. I can't really use shampoo when I do that because I wear human hair braids and I am not tryin to have these things slide out of my head.

I've just taken my cornrows down a few days ago. I don't plan on leaving them in for more than a month. Whenever my scalp itches like it's got a mind of it's own, I cleanse it with Sea Breeze and apply shea butter on the scalp to stop the itchies.

After my relaxer touchup, I'll be back in my braids sometime in November. My hair needs a well deserved rest, otherwise, I'll be dealing with serious problems that I don't need happen after my touchup.
