For those of you with 4A/4B type hair, which of you have had good results with Braid/Twist Out's and if you did, what products did you use and what steps did you take to have good results. /images/graemlins/confused.gif With my hair in the state that it is I want to try one, but don't want to end up with a frizzy mess. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

By the way, I absolutely LOVE /images/graemlins/weird.gifthis site!

i always use scurl spray (not too much) on each section and then seal the whole length with

elasta QP mango butter or profectiv megagrowth or hollywood beauty carot oil or my recent fave pure coconut oil(leaves a nice shine!)

i sleep on my twists and put vaseline on the ends to protect them before finger combing into a style, push the front back a bit and apply styling clips, then fantasia hair polish for shine and GO!

hope that helps (HTH)

I posted this same exact message under carmenrose's post... HTH

well i used the braid/twist out style as my staple durimg the summer and got a lot of growth from it. It was extremely cute on me. The last few i've done haven't been too succesful (i think its b/c i skipped the WGO step and did it without a product aid). I plan on doing one a week after my next relaxer. I let you know how it turns out as i will be replicating my summer routine of lathering 1x (or doing a c/o wash with CPR) conditioning w/o heat for 15mins. combing out with Infusium 23 as my leave in. I had 8 or 9 twists and i used WGO on each section as i twisted it. I also think the infusium gave it some light holding power. (NOTE: Infusium is not my choice leave in throughout the year, but it was very effective in this case)

I usually do twist outs instead of braidouts b/c the twists leave my hair spiral=like and springy morseo than crimpy. I also find that when i do braid outs my hair would be too crimpy in some areas so i opted for the twist out which gave me a more sensual look.

I slept on a satin pillowcase during the summer b/c i did not want to flatten to look by sleeping in a scarf. I used plain olive oil for sheen in the days in between.

I re-styled my twist out every 3 or 4 days.

Be sure to detangle each and every wash! I could've kept my 2.5 inches of summer growth if i didn't have knots whch ultimately had to be cut away in some cases. I also was impatient with my combouts and lost more hair than i should have. Be gentle. I was always in a rush!

Where did you get your mango butter? I found a bottle once in Nottingham but my sister stole it from me. I have found it difficult to locate anywhere else. Help pandora!!

Hi Chyna
Yesterday i tried a twist out on dry hair(~15 single double strand twist) and it turned out really good, soft, shiny with a lot of body and no frizzes /images/graemlins/smile.gif
With each section I sprayed Elasta QP H2 leave in conditioner, then i applied a tiny bit of elasta qp recovery oil moisturizer to my hair, and some elasta qp mango butter to my ends, combed it out, then i twisted away making sure i used a plastic rubber band on my ends. once i was done i applied more mango butter to my ends before i went to bed and before i took them out in the morning. hope this was helpful...but let me know if you've tried anything else....i love the braid/twist out look /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi PrincessP28,

Thanks for the info. I actually chickened out and my hairdresser actually did mine for me. I like it okay, but her method didn't give me the texture that I would like. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif I am going to get the Elasta QP products and try it myself /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks again /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I have 4a/4b hair. My twist outs turn out very nice.

1)I was hair with elasta qp bodufying shampoo, the the intense conditioner for ten minutes.

2)I section my hair ito four. I mix olive oil, Le Kair Aloe Vera cholestrol, and Organics Carrot oil and leave on for 2 hours, whilst wearing shower cap.

3)I rinse out with warm water, then final rinse with cold.

4)I blot with towel, and apply soft n free curl activator as my moisturiser.

5)I put my hair in rollers and leave to dry.

6)Then i do 5cm by 5cm square sections, add profectiv break free, healthy ends, and mega growth, and spray motions leae in nourish conditioner, brush and twist, i do this to every section.

7)Once finished i rub olve oil in my palm and gently rub all over hair.

8)Tie my head with a satin scarf, and take out in the morning.

I do this every night to avoid my hair tangling and less breakage, also to keep hair and ends well moisturised and help promote growth.

Yesterday i did another twist out, this is my whole help hair grow thing for the summer.

N e way it didn't turn out to well and by the end of the evening when i washed my hair i noticed a little more hair breakage than usual. I think it was due to the fact i had left the twist out for two days straight.

Now i think that the best thing to do to keep nice twist outs and healthy hair, would be to wear the twist for 2 days, twist out on the 3rd day and wash in the evening retwisting for the 1st day of the new twists again.

By wearing the twists in i can moisture ends easily and apply oils etc...necessary for the day that i twist out.
