Hello ladies,

please provide me with advice on how to prepare my hair for braids.

what should i do prior to the braids being put in?

what do you do?

TIA

Hi. I'm prepping my hair for braids as I type this. I'm going to get some more freestyle braids (individuals with the ends left undone with wavy human hair). I'm a natural 4a/b (kinky) btw. Braids are very convienant.

My routine is really simple. Wash really well with a deep cleansing or dandruff shampoo. I just took out my previous braids and as you know, braids leave crud and flakes on your scalp no matter if you wash/rinse, add oils to the scalp, or dab with Sea Breeze or which hazel, etc. It just comes with the territory lol.

Anyway, wash and scrub really well.........rinse......condition and detangle really well. I'm about to section my freshly washed damp hair and let it dry so that I can flat iron each section briefly....that way, it's easier for the braider to work with. I'll also apply some oil, such as olive...to the hair and scalp...nothing too heavy.

That's it. :)

Aquamarine thank you for your response,
I am going to follow your routine then use my olive oil treatment afterward. :)
i sometimes wear wet n wavy human hair braids the way you do decided to have a change especially after seeing Netta1's kanekalon lovely twists i've decided to go forsomething like that.;) ;i'm using gold mixed with black.

thank you joshlyn,

my braids are in now, i'm so pleased with them, i am following the c and g method

I'm thinking about getting braids. what style did you get?

i usually wear my hair in wet n wavy braids but wanted a change.

i bought kanekalon hair in colours gold and black, it is plaited all the way down, 2 inches are unplaited.(very curly ends)

i sealed and curled the hair in hot water, now it is very curly/wavy, the length is 22inches and it is a nice (and cheap) style...;)
