when I do a braid out and leave it out all day I get knots in it. this is the longest my hair has been in 15 yrs in it's natural state. do any of you have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening. I am trying to retain length, but if this keeps on happening I'll be back @ square one.:perplexed

Do you mean those annoying single-strand knots, or do you mean your hair gets tangled in general?

I get some of those single-strand knots, and I'm not sure how to avoid them. As far as my hair getting tangled, I notice that it gets more tangly if I'm out and it's a windy day and my hair is whipping about a lot. Otherwise, I can't say I've had any problems.

Well the wind was blowing kind of hard that day. What do you do when it gets wind blown and tangeled. anyone else can answer as well.

I sometimes get this problem especially if I wear braidouts back to back (with consecutive washes). A way to combat this is to alternate air-drying methods (braidout then ponytail then bun etc.), use very good detanglers and conditioners (it starts with the conditioner IMO, the more slip or detangling, the better the braidout). HTH

make sure your hair is completely detangled before you start your braid. Also avoid wearing your braidout on days where its very windy.
