I have had a braid out for the past three weeks. It's easy and I love it. I only did it occasionally before now. I ran across CDFrank's album and she said the wash and wear style severely damaged her hair. Now, I'm afraid.

Has anyone else had any problems with this style? I think she said she wore it for six months. Anyone else had this style for any length of time?

Maybe she meant that the wash and wear tangled her hair because she didn't comb it.

A braid out technically isnt a wash and wear, because you braid then unbraid the hair. I don't see how this could be damaging. The only damage I could think of would be your hair rubbing against your clothes.:)

I agree, as long as you keep it well moisturized you should be okay

i have done braid outs for months on and off its usually what i do to my hair at night when it is natural, my hair thrives on it, no issues at all. i think as long as you are still washing your hair and detangling it its not a bad style, also protecting it from weather ext, it rubs on my clothes i little usually natural hair wont be all that long anyway from shrinkage, for me its the best option to protect my hair. i dont see how it could cause alot of breakage for anyone doing it right.

Qetesh, Thank you very much for the response. Also, everyone else who responsed. I was looking for someone who had some experience with this style. Have you wore it on continually for any amount of time?

I started wearing braidouts as an adult here on LHCF when I learned it was a good protective style. I wore braidouts throughout 2004 (with buns and updos here and there), 2005 and I still wear them. It works great with my texlaxed hair and I love the way it shows some of my length. It retains more moisture also. There is a thread here on growing out one's hair wearing braidouts. :)

As I mentioned in another thread, I believe many of us wore braidouts as little girls(we just didn't call it that) and our hair thrived.;)

I wore braid-outs for years without any noticeable damage. For me I had to wash my hair about 3 times a week and use a moisturizing conditioner every time I washed.
My braid out would last for about 3 days without me having to braid it at night. So I'd wash it after that then braid it again.
