Coils coils & more coils!
I saw some posts about braiding out after a wash and condition. I am not familiar with this. Is it two braids pinned up? Or one single braid? I wanted to try this tonight.

A braidout is when you braid your hair while it's wet or either damp. Then, once it's dry, you take it down and have nice waves. Many people put perm rods on the last inch to curl the ends.

Thanks for the replies ladies.

Last night, I put it into two ponytails. The hair was just a little damp in the back though. The result: My hair was wavier. My ends stayed moisturized. I just got the message this afternoon.:) When I wash it again on Sunday, I will braid it up when it is wet. In addition to that...I think that I will braid it up every night along with pinning it.

Also, you can choose how tight or wavy you want your hair to be by how many braids you use and how you braid. I usually do two french braids to get my hair really wavy. Other ladies do individual braids, a few or alot all depending, and so on. You probably will have to do some experimenting to find what works for you

.

I braid my hair in about 14 braids, making sure each braid is going in the direction I want my hair to look the next day. For example, I like to wear a side part. So in the front top of my head, I make a side part and then have one section braided going straight down, but then I have three braids going the opposite direction.

And like the other ladies said, the wave pattern depends on how tight or loose you braid.

I have thick, coarse hair. Kind of like soft wool. If I just braided with a couple braids, I wouldn't have any real "style." So that's a factor also -- your "hair type." And I get better longer-lasting results if I use something to better "set" my hair. So I apply some Pantene moisturizing creme and some Black and Sassy creamy set to each section of hair while my hair is still damp and before braiding.

I have a question for you ladies. I was wondering what you put on the ends to hold the braids? I am trying my best to stay away from rubber bands and other things that are similar (ex wire ties ect.!

I use scrunci ouchless rubberbands . They are snagless and as long as I don't wrap them around too many times, they come out with ease.

Someone on another hair board said she uses chennelle covered pipe cleaners. She got them cheap from a craft place like Michael's (comes in many colors) and cut them to size, then used them to secure her hair ends (she had twists). I would like to try this and I hope they are safe to use on our hair.

These are perm rods:

I do pin curls on the ends... I can sleep better with them and the hair dries really quick. For hold I used to use mousse and it lasted at least 3 days (w/ daily moisturizing!) Now that I know about the evils of alc I use gel which is o.k.

Nay, thanks for the picture. I will try the pin curls, and the perm rods. The perm rods look a bit painful though.
