Braid extention questions

I'm planning to get sengalese
twists extentions.

How do u deep condition?
What your regiment?
Do u get your edges redone every few weeks?
How long do u keep your extentions in for?

I don't know about Senegalese twists but for my braid extensions, I DC same way as I would my hair. Smooth conditioner from about an inch from the base to the ends of my hair, applying to a few braids at a time the way you'd apply relaxer to your hair. (To get conditioner to penetrate the strands, I squeeze a the braids together.) I then braid them together to get them out of the way while I work on another set. I then put on a cap and go under a dryer if I want to use heat. Rinsing is done using a squeezing motion along the length of the braids.

My regimen is the same one I use for my hair any other time. Wash twice a week (shampoo, condition, ACV rinse). One of those washes includes a DC. Baggy every night. I don't use any other products on my hair. Not a leave-in, moisturizer or braid spray.

I do my own braids so I redo the edges as soon as they need redoing, even if it means every week. I do not allow any braid to dangle painfully away from my scalp. I make sure my edges are always firm. Or I undo the extensions and wear bangs for a while.

I keep my extensions for as long as I want. I'm wearing the same extensions I put in in April 2009 and have no plans to take them out anytime soon. I redo them one at a time whenever I find my hands with nothing else to do. Usually when watching TV. So they always look neat.

I did a set of kinky twist on DD's hair twisting from the root so I guess it's the same as Senegalese twists. I follow growafrohairlong's regi.

I rinse every two weeks with ACV and let diluted Suave Humectant sit on the braid for a while. I redo the entire perimeter one by one after the braids dry. I plan on leaving the extensions in for about 8 weeks.

Twists were one of the biggest keys to success when I was transitioning

I got my twists done the first time watched what the lady did and installed my own twist extensions from then on.

I bought 2-3 packs of the $3 kanekalon hair, I would put less hair in the twists near my hairline to reduce stress and eliminate the risk of hair loss. when I finished I'd dip the ends in hot water for a wavy braid out effect on the ends.

I would recommend washing once a week focusing mainly on the scalp, sleeping with a satin cap and I tend to only keep styles like that in my hair for 3-4 weeks max.....I'm sure it could feasibly last longer but I'm very big on the "fresh" look lol

I use a diluted shampoo (Trader Joe's and a little AOHSR) and let it sit for at least 5 min. under a cap. I squeeze the braids to help the conditioner penetrate. ((Thanks Aggie!))

What your regiment?

I leave them in for 2 weeks before I start messing with them to reduce slipping. After the 2nd week I wash and DC every week. I spray with a braid spray every day and oil my scalp 2-3 times/wk (I use a mixture of mahabhringaraj oil and MT) I sleep with two big "pocahontas" braids and wear my scarf.

Do u get your edges redone every few weeks?

Yes, at maximum.

How long do u keep your extentions in for?

It has ranged anywhere from 6 weeks (general recommendation) to 3 months (if you take care of them like Nonie and redo them along the way)

Thank you ladies for all the help. I wish I knew how to do my own. I gotta pay someone to install and redo them. But I know I gotta make sure they are done right especially with the edges...I'm really picky about that.

I've Learned:

Redo every few weeks or more if able to especially that hairline
Squeezing braids to penetrate the shampoo or conditioner
Keep a clean scalp

Just want to add to avoid letting products get to the base of the braid. The build up that occurs there will lead to locking up of the strand which leads breakage, especially if you wear the do for long. This is part of why I avoid applying conditioner to the base of my braids.

I have braid extensions and sometimes Ill wash it like I normally do (with diluted shampoo) then add the condish by sections and massage real good in the braids. Sit in hair for hours cause I dont feel like going under the dryer (plus I dont think u can go under the dryer with kankelon hair) then have someone help me rinse them out.....wear a towel wrapped around my head for a lil while while they drain or go out in the Florida Sun then spray with one of my leave-ins....always smells greeat and I dont have to add leave ines inbetween washes id I dont want to but I do and when I take them out I always have very soft mositerized hair
