I gotta say no heat and protective styles. No matter the product heat is always the factor on how much length I can gain or retain. Protective styles cut down on any unneccessary stress I put on the hair, which can also cause breakage.

Pre LHCF -I grew out my very short tapered hair cut to just shy of bsl, I was relaxed. Major contributors during that period were:
great stylists - salon visits every 3 weeks approx.
a simple routine
regular excercise
sound nutrition - plenty of protein, health fats and good clean carbs.
drinking water, water and more water.
Once my hair reached pony tail length I did wear protective styles 2/3's of the time. I didn't do it for growth though.

ETA: In my transitionin, I was simply replacing length. I guess protective styles, patience and LHCF have helped me big time! Combined with my willingless to look a hot mess on occassion. Seriously, I had to change my perception of "done hair".

I agree with the others - no heat, baby the ends, moisturize daily, comb gently (back when I did comb:lol: ) protective styles.

What everyone else has said. Minimal heat usage (meaning a hooded dryer or flat iron every once in a while and NEVER a blow fryer), moisturizing the ends, and being gentle with your hair. Minimal brushing (and boar bristles), seamless combs, satin and silk pillow cases and scrunchies. All of these things feel nice and are very hair friendly.

  • little heat (i use the blowdryer/fryer every 2-3 months with great results...helps me 2 find split ends so i can chop them..no other probs aslong as its rare)
  • search and destroy tactics!
  • airdrying
  • wet bunning
  • extreme moisture
  • grease on the ends and hair line (for me!)
  • twists and twistouts
  • no bands, bobbles on the ends at all
  • ouchless bands thrown out, fat bobbles/bands (cottony) are best
  • also stretching relaxers and doing a natural protein treatment before retouching

Just cosigning with everyone else. Protect and maintain the ends over time and avoid overprocessing the newgrowth. You have to retain at least as much "old" hair as newgrowth to see length.

Being consistent with my hair regimen, protecting my ends as much as possible, and low maintenance hair styling. Those are key to retaining your growth! :yep:

Very little to No heat,Protective styles,Moisture, deep condtioning, condition wash.

Thats all i can think of now.

Protective styling (wet bunning and the like) and low manipulation alon with the usual moisturising.

The major factor for me is very little heat.

Protective styling, protein/moisture balance, pampering my ends, and deep conditioning are major factors also.

Little heat (only indirect with rollersets), weekly washing and DCing and protein helped me regain the health of my hair when I started my journey three years ago. The gain in length happened after joining LHCF. The only things I changed (I was already doing everything I mentioned before joining):

*Low manipulation - before I used to comb my hair a million times a day, and I had a lot of split ends to show for it. I only comb on wash day now.
*Saying "no" to scissor happy stylists - I still love my stylist, but she is not allowed to trim my hair because "trim" means a minimum of two inches to her. I prefer going to a specialty place like Supercuts to get a trim, and it's only like $10.
*Staying consistent with my vitamins
*Moisturizing and sealing ends daily or every other day (Mizhani Rose H20 and olive oil)
*Keeping my hair off my shoulders - I don't bun well (due to layers), so I do a ponytail or keep it up in a clip most of the time. I do wear it down when it's freshly done (1-2 days a week), but when I'm alone, it's up.

co sign w/ everyone has gotten me an inch past midback, and lots of dcing, and nettle tea (internally and as a tea rinse) and eating right (lots of veggies and protein (lots of fish)

Using moisture rich products
Protective styling
Sleeping in satin bonnet
Eliminating hair rollers
Oiling the hair and ends thoroughly once a week

For me, natural hair, daily moisture, protective styling, no heat. Low manipulation. My diet and supplements are a factor I am sure.

daily conditioner only washes and detangling/combing only while in the shower with a headful of conditioner
bunning my hair
sleeping with it covered
protecting the ends and keeping them moisturized
BIOTIN!
stretching relaxers
little to no heat
not putting anything on my scalp.

Yeah, for me it's been the following

-Minimize heat usage
-Stretch relaxers
-Deep conditioning twice weekly (shampooing twice weekly lather once with baby shampoo to help with dandruff)
-Moisturizing and sealing my ends
-Protective styles
-FINGER DETANGLIGN BEFORE detangling with wide tooth comb

-ONLY COMB on wash days, finger style the rest of the days.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!
