Bought Maxiglide... Did Mom's Hair (Not too Happy)

When I did a piece of my hair I thought the maxiglide worked great!
My mom has a kinkier texture and well she only wanted me to do level 4, and it came out poofy like a soft press
I forgot to take before/after pics Im sorry
And its her bday so I felt horrible about how her hair came out
Where did I go wrong?
It was almost like her ends wouldnt straighten.. was it the product I used or was it not enough heat?
And then it was like the maxiglide wouldnt pull through, I had to keep stopping and combing
I just dont see where I went wrong... I was disappointed

I don't have a Maxiglide but I'll try and help anyway. What did you do to her hair beforehand? I find when I am straightening my cousin's natural 4a/b hair I can't just run the flat iron through and expect it to come out silky.

Most of the time I have to blow it out first or roller set it to try to get it as straight as possible before I can even dream of flat ironing. Then I have to do very small sections working my way up from the nape. HTH!

ITA. I have 4a/b hair also and it is difficult to just take the iron and pass it through. My hair does not come out straight at all. However I agree when I blow dry or roller set I get much better results.

She may need a trim.

Trade Secret is this store (it's in some malls) that basically has a wide range of salon quality haircare brands. There's CHI, Joico, ABBA, etc. etc. The 6 oz. Silk Infusion at Trade Secret was a bit more than the one at JCPenney Salon. In many stores the 6 oz. sells for around $17.95 or more and the 12 oz. for around $39.95. So unless you can find a store sale, ordering from folica.com may be your best bet.

Sounds like you needed to turn up the heat. And like others said you need more than one pass.

Hmmm...well I'm a natural 4a/b with collar bone length hair. And I have a MG, which I just LOVE. What I do is use straightening Shampoos and Conditioners (Paul Mitchell or Redken) when I'm going to wear my hair straight. I also blow dry with a straightening lotion (currently Redken or Loreal Blow Straight). This helps my hair straighten out without pulling and tugging from the blow dryer. Then I gently detangle any kinks with a comb, making sure not to stress the hair.

Finally, I use the MG, and I do so on setting 5 starting at the nape and going up to the front. My sections are tiny and it takes me about 1 hour to do my entire head. But when I'm done...I have bone straight shaky hair just like a press.

The MG even gets my ends straight when I need a trim. Nothing else did that for me and I have tried several flat irons. I hope you try it again with some of the advice from this post.

i think i should have blow dried her hair first for sure then did it at a higher level
but shes such a scaredy cat shes like "dont burn all my hair off"
But when I do my hair for graduation I'm definitely going to go all out and take before and after pics

Yeah, that's how I do it.

That's what I was going to suggest letting it dry overnight. My hair will puffy a little if it's not totally and completely dry. It would take a lot of heat (for a long time) to get it as dry as just blowing drying it lightly then leaving it overnight before attempting to straighten it.

Paul Mitchell Straight Silky Shampoo and Conditioner or Redken Smooth Down Shampoo and Conditioner - these make a big difference in blow drying and using the Maxiglide.

I agree. I think I posted in the first thread where you were asking for advise that the maxi wouldn't work well on hair that has been air-dried hanging loose. You will get much better results from it if the hair has been roller set, banded, wet wraped, blow dried, etc. because the hair will already be straightish and detangled so the iron will just glide through not requiring much heat or manipulation. Next time try that, I'm pretty sure it will turn out much better.
