Bone comb imperfections?

Hi you guys, I just received my new bone comb from Hairsense. I know they are handmade, but I have a question.

Do the teeth of your comb look deeply carved? Like you can see the places where the carvings actually are? Especially where the teeth of the comb meet the body? The tooth nearest to the handle has a horizontal gash so visible, I was tempted to file it down myself, but I don't want to damage the comb.

Comb works great. I was just wondering if this was normal?

No, no made in Hong Kong on the plastic sleeve it came packaged in.

As for a seam, I guess that's my question. It doesn't have a SEAM per se, as my other large rake does. The teeth literally have handmade carvings you might see in wood. I'm left wondering if the sharp carves are just as damaging as seams over time. Am not familiar with bone combs and wondering if all the "Bakelite/Bone" combs from hairsense look this "handmade."

BTW, I purchased comb #222.

I think I got jipped. My comb looks like it has a friggin' seam..... I'm going to give Ms. Thang a call.

Eeesh!

Perhaps I'm the one who got jipped?!
That's the problem, I don't know? With the rush on business Hairsense must be getting from us, who knows what might be going on? I hate to think there's any funny business at work here.

I thought of calling myself, but the comb is so specifically "what it is" I said to myself, what are they gonna say? "Oh, that doesn't sound right, send the comb back and we'll give you another?" Of course not. They're gonna say "our combs are all handmade, they look the way they do on account of BEING handmade, and no two are exactly alike."

But if your comb looks like it has actual "assembly line generated" seams? Hmm...? That said, if the line two side carvings make when they come together and meet in the middle is called a "seam", then my comb has a bloody seam too!

I received mine from Hairsense today as well. My large tooth reddish-brown one has deep diagional gashes on each side of the teeth toward the top, but my black one (smaller teeth) doesn't have gashes. I hope these sharp gashes won't become "seam-like".

Hi Ladies,

No, you didn't get jipped as far as I know; your combs are fine. It's the nature of hand-carving. Mine look like that also. The combs will not have the perfect, factory look. Each one will be a little different; gashs and all. Enjoy your combs

Thanks for the info. Was hoping that was the case!

You and I have the same combs.

I ordered a bone comb from Hairsense a few years ago and because of the material it was made of (resin) it didn't last long. I style my hair while wet and over a period of time, water weakened it. One night I wash combing my natural hair and the thing snapped in two. The package claimed it was unbreakable but my hair proved that claim wrong.

Co-signing. That's what they look like. They have groves but they are smooth groves. The sharp edges on other combs are the ones that can damage your hair.

I got several from them years ago and they do have groves but my hair doesn't get snagged on them. They may look jagged but they are very smooth.
