Hey everyone I have a quick question. Has any blow-dried/flat-ironed their new growth straight before getting your hair braided? Were there any negative effects to doing this?

ive done it. i didnt experience any negative problems. in fact, i flat iron before i braid my hair for each sew in so my braids will be less "fluffy" and can lay flatter

Hi Mermaid,

Why would you do this? In my case, the braid holds/anchors better on new growth than fresh permed/straightened hair.

I've been thinking about doing this. I though that straightening the hair would be better to manage while braiding. Natalied , you do have a very good point about the new growth. I'm glad I posted this question before actually doing it. Thanks ladies!

I press my roots before getting my hair braided. I do it so that the braider will not be able to rip through my hair if she is rough.

Exactly!! except I use my comb attachment blow dryer

If you don't blow out your hair, the braiders will surely do it, and they are not as gentle with your hair like you would be.
