i see women in my Dominican salon getting just their newgowth blown strait but not he middle to ends.....
is this ok on your opnion? i am still unsure about this, i would like to hear your thoughts...
thnx
aida

I have gotten this done the few times I have been. I prefer them just blowing out my roots, because it's safer for my ends.

I've posted about me getting this done several times. It makes my new growth appear as if I've just gotten a relaxer touch-up. This process has not harmed my hair at all.

o good, i would like to do this to stretch out in between relaxers, so maybe i can go a few more weeks between....how often would you guys do this? every wash or just every so often......?
thnx

Tracy gets this done too, but I'm not sure how often. I only go to a Dominican salon every now and then. So, I don't do this on a consistent basis. Try sending Tracy a private message or maybe she'll visit this thread.

I got this done at a Dominican salon once, but I won't do it again. The blowdryer was too hot on my scalp, and my 4a curl pattern was too tight. The new growth was straightened, but my scalp was sore and I lost too much hair.

In January I went three weeks straight once I reached my 7 week mark. It didn't make my scalp sore, and I didn't notice any breakage. Look at my photo album.

I get this done every once in a while. I've had it done at a Dominican Salon and I've done it on my own. Luckily, I usually have smooth new growth when I do my rollersets.

I'm just curious if this...hurts at all? I know when I get my hair blowdried sometimes, it hurts...like I feel like I get burned. So, I'm wondering with something like this, does that happen more often?

It doesn't do my hair any harm, as long as i tell them not too hot, because they have burned my scalp on their normal temperature. I would NEVER let them blow my ends though.

I used to get this done just about every week when my new growth was coming in. My hair looked good. I guess it depends who does it. My stylist was a little heavy handed but it still didn't really do any damage.

Whether it hurts or not depends on the stylist. If you find one that burns your scalp, don't go to her again. She should only be running it against your newgrowth once or twice, not 5 and 6xs. I don't get this often but i do know that when i do, i haven't had any adverse affects

I go to the Dominican Salon weekly faithfully. I have not seen any damage to my hair as a result. I let them blow the roots and then wrap it. As long as I know I am not going out that day and going straight home I let them do that. If I am going somewhere I let them blow my hair to the ends.

I prefer having the roots done too....I either wear my hair down with the curl at the end or they wrap it for me ( but I rarely do that/ my hair gets too "flat")

I also do this at home...after a roller set, with a brush and I like the results...it comes out fuller when I do it, but I like that.

I blow my roots after I take my rollers out. I've only done this a few times. I use a hair dryer and a round brush.

Do you part your hair in small sections at a time to do this? I want to try it at home.

When you take ur rollers out, your hair should already be 'sectioned'... you can start there

Right CaramelHonee. I just blow dry the sections where I took the rollers out. I ONLY blow dry the roots though. After I blow dry, I wrap my hair for a few minutes, put some oil or hair polish on it, and then comb it down.

Does anyone blow dry the roots while the rollers are in? I dont understand the point of blowing the roots if the hair is already dry.

thanks alot for all the answers.

one more question, do you put anything on your hair like a heat protecter or moisturizer while you're blowing the roots? or do you just blow it with no added stuff?

TIA

Hi guys....

I do this all the time, have for years. It's never caused me trouble. I don't put anything at the scalp. I've had people burn me (ouch!) but I've also had wonderful women (like my current stylist) who never does. It's all in the technique.

Ny hair is fine, on thinner side and I get the straightness (and this is the point - staightness with body) without the added stress of the additional heat on my ends - which has helped me to retain healthy length. All the pics I've posted (well most of 'em) have been of blow dried roots and then a wrap. My hair normally looks a lot like Denali's (not with that purty color though

) in her 'Blowout" pic....

It's my staple wash and set routine.

I go to an Ethiopian salon where the stylists there will blow dry one's roots after a roller set. It straightens the new growth remarkably and makes it look like one just had a touch-up. My stylist blow dried my roots for years until last summer when I decided to cease the use of all forms of direct heat. She always blow dried my roots on the highest setting (ouch) and without any moisturizer (double ouch).

I don't miss it all b/c I think it may be damaging in the long run. Meanwhile, I have come to enjoy my poofy new growth . . . it gives my hair some volume.

I SO wish I could find one of these...

I hope I can find one in the South when I relocate. I'm worried about not having mis dominicanas but it seems like the Ethiopian salons are very similar.
