Blow drying my bdb\'s

Tell me if you think this is a good idea. I recently was able to start wearing a bun. I was self-conscious about how "nappy" my hair was at the nape of my neck. I've been transitioning since feb.2003, and nothing worked on that area. So now, I spritz my hair w/ a rosemary spritz, sta-sof-fro, massage my scalp, apply gel and blow-dry that area on a low setting. It doesn't feel dry but I wanted to know if what I'm doing is damaging?

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

Well I wouldn't blow dry it I would just tie a bandanna (sp around it to let it dry and lay down straight.

But If you can't do that as long as your conditioning your hair regularly. I don't think it would have a major effect.

But girl don't quote me on that.

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

everything sounds good except the gel & blowdrying part. how about you follow the same routine BUT "set" your damp edges w/a silk scarf for about 5 minutes or overnight. this should leave your edges smooth.

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

Definitely nix the gel and blowdrying!!! Instead use some Sta-Sof-Fro and some pomade like that Fantasia's ICE pomade!!! Much better for your hair and not drying like the blow dryer and high bad alcohol content of gels!! Your hair will thank you for it!!

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

Thanks, ladies! I must say that I have tried every pomade you can think of and I sleep in a scarf every night, only to wake up w/ a headache because the scarf is too tight and still have bdb's. Like I said, it doesn't seem to be drying my hair out and my dryer is on a low setting. Will continuing to do this hurt my hair over time?
@CocoaCure, would you recommend the pomade/sta-sof-fro combo for this blowdrying method or just no heat at all?

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

have you ever tried elasta qp glaze gel? this stuff works real well. also if you use the scarf, you only have to leave it on for about 10 minutes and it should help your hair lay flat. and you should try getting a satin bonnet cap to sleep in if the scarf is to tight.

Well, EgyptianSand 16, the problem w/my bdb's only occurs on one side of my head(left). The other side is very "manageable"; I barely have to brush it and it gathers into my clip for my bun. This problem area has been an issue for me for about 1 1/2 years(bad perm ate my hair up from the nape of my neck to the middle of my left ear) I'm very pleased w/the progress my hair has made so far. It's not a matter of "not accepting my hair". I just know that the left side can and should look like the right side.

@Jaquai, I do sleep in a satin bonnet--every night. Since I started wearing a bun, I also wear a stocking cap, covered by my scarf, which is covered by my bonnet.

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

I'd have to say no heat at all!!! Have you tried spraying either Sta-Sof-Fro or SCurl on your newgrowth??? This should really lay it down or at least make it curlier so you can brush it down with a boar bristle brush. But I'd definitely, without question, say NO HEAT!! HEAT IS EVIL!!!

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

@CocoaCure, I didn't know IC pomade had mineral oil in it. I thought that was a no-no for transitioners/nappturals. I trie using this w/ my SSF and got the same results. Maybe if I keep it moisturized, it will catch up w/ the other side.

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

hi , maybe you should cut out the scarf if it hurts your head. just a suggestion

also about the mineral oil thing, if your hair doesnt have a problem with mineral oil then use it. some people like it and some dont. im natural and alot of my products have mineral oil and it hasnt stopped my hair from growing.

Re: Blow drying my bdb\'s

Hi Bee,

I've said it before on this board and I cant say it enough
"Pantene Relax Daily Oil Cream" in the brown bottle helps "relax" the hair. At least it does for me. I have 4a type hair and before my last relaxer I had about 8 weeks of new growth and this cream really makes my hair hair lay down flat for my ponytails, buns etc....... My hair at the nape is pretty long so it pulls into my ponytails and buns just fine but I'm telling you girl, just try it,I think you'll like it
